Discover the little known treasures of Tavira and its surroundings or spend time at home - Quinta Tara, your own private paradise. This luxuriously fitted villa overlooks the rolling hilltops of the Asseca valley, an 8 minute walk from the amenities at Prego and an 8 minute drive from the quaint and historic town of Tavira. A variety of white, sandy beach islands and lagoons are within a 10-15 minute drive. The house attracts plenty of natural sunlight and is a wonderful space for families to enjoy. A galleried landing overlooks this comfortable living room which has settees, farmhouse furniture and an inglenook fireplace. The villa has SKY and Cable television with several English speaking channels, surround sound system, DVD and a video. Breakfast under the almond trees, lounge around the pool, enjoy a fresh fish barbeque on the terracotta patio and then catch a beautiful sunset from the roof terrace absorbing the varied hues and shapes of the landscape - what a lovely day!

We are flexible on the arrival and departure days though prefer to keep bookings close to each other.
Long let from October - February available at 300 euros per week.
Changeover day
Changeover day is flexible. The villa will be ready by 1pm or before on the day of arrival. Departure by 10am unless agreed otherwise.

Notes on accommodation
There are ceiling fans in bedrooms for summer nights. The house has radiators on the ground floor powered by the fire. Firewood is supplied for winter rentals - ensuring a cosy winter break, incase the sun doesn't shine! Our average winter daytime temperature is 17 degrees! The house is accessed by a track and has a private shingle drive with ample parking space beside the villa.
Outside
The half-acre garden has almond, lemon, orange and fig trees and is enclosed by a dry-stone wall. A spacious, sunny and shaded terrace surrounds the house with pergolas of grape, wisteria and bougainvillea.
An upstairs terrace can be reached by an exterior staircase and is a perfect spot for a sunset view.
The mosaic pool with dimensions of 8m x 4m and a depth of 1.8m x 1m has far reaching views of the Asseca valley and is very secluded. The pool is terraced and has an outdoor shower and a built-in barbeque area at one end.
Coast/Beach
Tavira Island beach is a 10 minute drive away. Reached by a short ride in a charming ferry (for a euro return!) you will discover wonderful golden, sandy beaches, beach bars and restaurants on an island 10 miles by 1. Sta Luzia village next to Tavira also has the beautiful beach of Barril, situated in a nature reserve and reached by a toy train or walkway. Within the Algarve there are over 100 beaches all within an hour to an hour and a half drive. All you have to do is choose!!
Golf
For golfers, there is a lovely new 36 hole golf club called Quinta da Ria just to the east of Tavira at a place called Fabrica. There is also the less challenging Benamor course, designed by Henry Cotton which opened in 2000 on the outskirts of Tavira. Benamor golf course near Cabanas is a 10 minute drive with a further new golf course, Quinta da Ria another 5 minutes further down the road. The more famous courses at Villamoura are all a 40 minutes drive away on the motorway.
Travel
The nearest airport is Faro which is a 30 minute drive. Car hire is recommended at our villa and can be arranged by a local reputable company offering good rates, please enquire.
Distances
The nearest village is Prego which is a 5 minute walk. Prego has a small English-run Pub which serves food nightly and a local shop that sells essentials. Tavira is an 8 minute drive and has full amenities.
There is a local town map in the house with amenities marked and some brochures of local attractions.
Further details
Tavira is renowned for its 38 historic churches and its four beautiful bridges spanning the Gilao river which divides the town and allows for spectacular riverside views of the medieval town and river life. Numerous cafes and restaurants line the river, public gardens and quiet squares, offering an array of traditional patisseries and fresh fish dishes. The castle walls border the medieval centre of town, encompassing tranquil gardens and a camera obscura. From here scan over the rich tapestry of peaked rooftops to the estuary leading through the mosiac of salt pans and far out into the Atlantic.
Just nearby to Quinta Tara feast your eyes on a spectacular natural waterfall and a true 'blue lagoon'!
Booking notes
Transport is advisable for this location. There is a once-weekly maintenance visit including a linen change and the pool and gardens are attended to twice weekly.
Beach towels are provided.
Notes on booking: We accept payments in euros by bank transfer. Transfer costs to be covered by guests.
50% within two weeks of confirming booking and balance up to 8 weeks before arrival. Bookings less than 4 weeks prior to arrival must be paid in full either by transfer or on arrival.
