Casa Lirio is our own home on the Algarve set in a quiet residential area. It's a place to unwind with every facility easily to hand. Ideal for romantic couples, family holidays or as a base for those interested in the many excellent golf courses. Relax by walking to the lighthouse, across sandstone headlands overlooking the sea, or to one of the four golden beaches in easy walking distance. Several golf courses are close by, as are numerous good (and cheap) restaurants. The nearby unspoilt fishing village of Ferragudo has lots of small shops/restaurants in tiny cobbled streets (the village also has a pharmacy where English is spoken) and the square is a great place to relax by day in one of the coffee shops or bars (English breakfasts can also be found!); and on Friday & Saturday evenings in July/August the square comes to life with local live music and dancing. If you have children, two water theme parks and the ZooMarine oceanographic theme park all within an easy drive.

Changeover day
A Saturday arrival / departure is assumed. Other changeover days may be available on request.

Notes on accommodation
This is our own house on the Algarve and we maintain it accordingly. Furnished to a high standard, it is suitable for children; cot and high chair available (please request when booking). We have a policy of no smoking inside the house.

Outside
The 6m private pool is regularly cleaned and maintained. The property includes an outdoor BBQ and three patio areas: one (with table and chairs) in full sun from morning to lunchtime, and one close to the BBQ (also with table and chairs) in shade for lunch but which catches the evening sun. The pool area has sun loungers, deckchairs and sun shades as does the secluded rooftop patio with views to the sea and Praia da Rocha beyond.
Coast/Beach
Four golden sandy beaches are within easy walking distance - Canheiros, Pintadinho, Molhe and Praia Grande - and they all have their own restaurants/beach bars, one of which (at Praia da Canheiros) we think is simply the best fish restaurant in the area. Molhe and Praia Grande are calm beaches - very good for younger children/toddlers.
If walking is your thing, then Casa Lirio is ideally situated for walks across the sandstone clifftops or across the headland to the lighthouse.
Golf
The Algarve is a golfers paradise - more courses than you'll be able to play in a fortnight! The closest to Casa Lirio are as follows: Penina (a European tour championship course); Pinta (which includes the David Leadbetter training academy and an excellent driving/chipping range open to the public) and Gramacho; Silves (new in 2007); and Alto (the last course designed by Henry Cotton). Others further afield for the more experienced include Salgados (lots of water!), Boa Vista (close to Praia da Luz - book a golf buggy if you don't want a VERY long walk!); and the Vilamoura/Vale do Lobo area (about 30 minutes) abounds with even more courses.
There is also a par 3 9-hole course called Vale de Milho close to Carvoieiro for beginners and those that don't want to be intimidated by larger courses!
Travel
An easy 40 minute drive from Faro airport. Lisbon is also a possibility at 2 1/2 hours as is Seville Airport in Spain (about the same). Car hire is recommended in order to explore the area but not essential. Private car transfers from the airport can be arranged if needed as an additional extra.
Distances
The farthest point west (Cape St. Vincent) is just 45 mins away where you can walk around the old fort at Sagres; or simply watch the sun set over the Portuguese equivalent of Lands End. Apart from Ferragudo itself, Portimao is 15 minutes drive (or get the water taxi from the quay in Ferragudo outside 'Sueste' restaurant); the lovely fishing village of Alvor is just beyond. Carvoeiro is only 10 minutes drive whilst Monchique is 40 mins away plus the ancient moorish town of Silves on the way.
Further details
One minimarket is available (limited opening hours in winter) within a few hundred yards, but there are also larger supermarkets within easy driving distance. There are too many good restaurants to mention, several within easy walking distance - one of which is really child friendly with a kids play area. We have our own favourites and details/locations are contained in a book at the property; your only problem will be working out which of them you are going to visit in the limited time available to you! Several banks with cash dispensers are available in the village or at the golf courses. For those of you bringing children, there are two water theme parks within easy reach ('Slide'n'splash' and 'The Big One' - both about 10 minutes drive) and also the ZooMarine oceanographic theme park.
Booking notes
Prices are p.w. on a self catering basis including electricity, gas and weekly cleaning service during normal holiday lets (cleaning by arrangement during long lets). 10% of rental is requested to secure bookings; a refundable security deposit of £150 is also required at the same time to cover breakages etc. Payment in full 8 weeks prior to arrival (or at time of booking for reservations within 8 weeks of arrival).
