Quiet rural location some 15 mins walk to the beach and just 2 mins drive to this quiet seaside village of Porto Dinheiro and near to the pleasant, friendly town of Lourinha with its restaurants, shops, dinosaur museum and fresh food market. Easy access from Lisbon airport (approx 50 mins drive). Close to all facilities including medieval walled town of Obidos, traditional fishing port of Peniche, splash parks at Nazaré, beaches for surfing at Areia Branca, Baleal and Foz do Arelho, and picturesque Obidos lagoon for the sailing club. Well situated for access to golf courses at Golf Mar, Rio Maior (Golden Eagle), Bon Successo and Pria d'El Rey.

Notes on accommodation
Walled enclosed patio area with flower and shrub borders. Quiet private side road.
Accessibility
Ground level bedroom with 2 single beds. French windows opening out to the patio, pool and BBQ area. Downstairs bathroom with shower over whirlpool bath adjacent to bedroom.
Outside
Newly installed pool with soothing jacuzzi area, outside dedicated BBQ space. Patio with sun loungers, table chairs, umbrella etc. Parking areas off quiet road in front of villa.
Coast/Beach
15 mins countryside walk to the rugged coastline of the Atlantic. 3 mins drive to the pretty 'Blue Flag' beach of Porto Dinheiro. There are several restaurants/cafes next to the beach and a public toilet. In summer lifeguards are ususally on site. A number of other beaches are available within a few mintes drive up and down the coastline (e.g. Areia Branca, Santa Cruz).
Surfers will find surf schools and waves at Areia Branca, Peniche and Vimeiro. Obidos lagoon for sailing and windsurfing.
Golf
The villa is ideally situated to take advantage of the surrounding golf courses, e.g. Hotel Golf Mar (10 mins drive), Bon Successo (15 mins drive), Golden Eagle (30 mins drive), Pria d'El Rey (30 mins drive). Full range of courses in nearby Lisbon. Full details available upon request.
Special interest holidays
In addition to golf, the Golf Mar Hotel (10 mins drive) has beautiful beaches, an equestrian centre and a health and beauty spa. Spas and thermal baths are also available at Torres Vedras and Caldas da Rainha. Sea-fishing opportunities all along the coast and a Go-carting track nearby. For anyone interested in classical riding, the villa is ideally situated to visit and ride at some of the most famous riding centres in Portugal (within 30-80 mins drive). Contact owners or see associated website for details/comments. The house is located in an area rich in fossils and the 'Dinheirosaurus lourinhanensis' dinosaur bones were found nearby.
Travel
Lisbon Airport max 60 mins drive. A car is essential to enjoy the amenities available in and around the area. From Faro the journey by car takes about 3 - 4 hours but the toll roads are excellent with little traffic. Tolls from Faro cost about 30 euros.
Distances
Lourinha town (10 mins drive). Fishing port of Peniche and surf beaches (15 mins drive). Medieval walled town of Obidos (15 mins drive). Historial towns of Alcobaca, Batalha, Tomar, Fatima, Santarem, Mafra and Sintra (40-90 mins drive). Lisbon centre is about an hour's drive away.
Further details
Bread shop/cafe around the corner. All main facilities available in Lourinha which itself is just a 10 minute drive. Small streets with an historical old centre with traditional individual shopping and a large supermarket on the edge of the town. Lourinha has plenty of cafes and restuarants as well as a fresh food farmers' market. Lourinha is famous for its dinosaur remains which can be explored in the Dinosaur Museum. There are numerous excellent fish restaurants in the surrounding area. Santa Cruz (15 mins drive) has a flying school offering flights in light planes and gliders. A few minutes drive north of Lourinha towards Peniche is Dinocart (Go-cart track).
The local area is well known for its spas and thermal baths (e.g. at Vimeiro, Torres Vedras and Caldas da Rainha).
The region is one of the largest wine growing areas of Portugal. The Western Wine Route offers the opportunity to explore (and taste) the local wines.
The region has many festivals throughout the year, one of the most famous being the Chocolate festival in Obidos.
The area boasts hiking routes (e.g. Tornada fens) Nature reserves and parks (e.g. Berlinga Island - off Peniche, Mafra wildlife park with its boars and wolves), mountaineering, hillwalking and cave exploration (Serra de Montejunto park).
Wellington's fortifications against Napoleon's invasions (the 'Linhas de Torres') can be found near Torres Vedras.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Having travelled around Portugal for several summers on holiday we found ourselves always returning to the same area. We love the beaches and the surfing they offer, the amazing old towns and cities with their festivals and fetes, within a short drive. A special bonus was the closeness of my riding trainer with his superb Lusinato horses! The area is beautiful and tranquil. The air is renowned for its freshness. The lifestyle is gentle and rather old-fashioned and very precious for that. You can find the lively bars and restaurants but they do not overwhelm. Anyone who loves seafood will love some of the local restuarants. We often walk down to the seashore in the evening for a meal and to watch the fishing boats come out. The songs of the crickets serenade you back home.
Unique benefits of the property
The villa is spacious and cool. There are several small shops within walking distance and the local buses are regular. You really need a car to make the most of your visit but you can get around using public transport quite easily. Driving into Lisbon takes less than an hour (45 mins is our record when nearly late for a display of the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art at Queluz) but you can also park outside and travel into the centre by metro.
The local roads are excellent and its fun exploring the local villages. Its easy to drive along the coast and we are within about 15km of the major north/south motorway (A8).
