Notes on accommodation
The villa is managed locally on a day to day basis. This includes supervising the general well being of the house and ensuring that everything is kept in working order, as well as seeing to the needs of the guests. You will be visited within 48 hours of arrival, or by appointment, to help with instructions to the maid, etc., and please do not hesitate to ask them for help or advice in connection with the villa at any time. There is a villa book, for reference, in the property.
Accessibility
Whilst the majority of the house is on one level, no special provisions have been made to facilitate disabled access. Internally the East Wing is higher than the remainder of the house although the West Wing and all communal areas are on a single level. In the garden there are steps leading down to the pool and more shallow steps towards the beach. The house should be suitable for an infirm visitor, especially if accompanied, however no facilities have been provided for disabled persons.
Outside
The partially shaded main terrace is equipped with a variety of sun-beds and chairs. It enjoys good views of the swimming pool and the sea. Also enjoying views of the grounds and the bay, the marble dining table is semi-enclosed and can comfortably accommodate 12 people. It is ideal for entertaining and barbecues are provided. There are lawns & flower beds which are regularly maintained. The pool is located down at a lower level with access from the main terrace or by 2 other paths through the garden. There is a shower for use after visiting the beach. Care is needed with children as the pool is not fenced. There is direct access to the beach through a secure gate which is kept locked when not being used, a key is provided for clients.
Coast/Beach
Casa do Mar enjoys direct access to the beach with no road or path to cross. This is almost unique for property in the Algarve. There are generally buckets and spades to spare at the house, and some inflatable pool toys, but these are subject to use by all visitors and cannot be guaranteed to be there. The small shops along the front promenade, and elsewhere, have plenty for sale.
Golf
Praia da Luz can be a great holiday location if you are planning to sample some of the Algarve's golf courses. The Boa Vista golf course is almost on the doorstep, being just before the Luz turnoff from Lagos. The course runs almost to the edge of the highest cliff over Casa do Mar.
Skiing
Water skiing is available on the beach as well as other beach activities, banana boats, windsurfing, etc, costs from the facility owners.
Travel
The easiest way to travel to Praia da Luz is to fly to Faro airport which is approximately 1 hours drive from the house.
Other visitors from further afield have flown to Lisbon, and the drive down the payage motorway is about 3-4 hours depending on time and the driver.
Distances
Luz is on the doorstep, everything is walkable if you choose, and there is, apparently, a little known Roman site at the beach front with access along the promenade.
Lagos is a historic town, with a museum, art galleries, many many shops and restaurants, about 6km. At least 4 large supermarkets there. The old town is fascinating to walk through.Burgau, 3/4 km along the coast. Several free local newspapers/magazines (available in supermarkets) are full of useful information.
Further details
There are so many restaurants it is no longer possible to list them, but you can walk to a great many. Coffee, breakfast is a stroll along the front if you wish.
Larger and smaller supermarkets are accessible, and some deliver. The supermarkets, including a Lidl, are in Lagos.
A bank is in the village at the church square.
Hairdressers, clothes shops, chemists, doctors, are all in the "village".
Any questions, please ask.
A post office is in the "high street".
