The apartment at Quinta da Bica offers comfortable and peaceful accommodation in a central location ideal for exploring the Algarve. 20 min drive from the best beaches, with the historic Moorish town of Silves close by, as well as the beautiful spa hamlet of Caldas de Monchique. Messines itself is a 5 min drive away and still very much a traditional Portuguese town with a daily market where local producers supply seasonal fruit and vegetables as well as freshly caught fish and Alentejo style bread. Eating out locally is great value and offers the opportunity to try the regional culinary specialities. Quinta da Bica offers a range of outdoor activities and guests can explore the countryside on horse-back, by Jeep Safari, mountain bikes and quad bikes at an additional cost. It is also a great place for walkers and nature lovers with many miles of tracks. Rich variety of birds, wild flowers and local sites of archaeological interest. Riding holidays also available.

We are flexible over changeover days and length of stay, whether it be days or weeks.

Notes on accommodation
We are happy to accept children! We are the first Pony Club Overseas Centre in Portugal and hold Pony Club every Saturday morning for kids from 8 to 16 years old. During August we have 3 residential Pony Club camps. We also take kids on "Wear'em out" days with lots of energetic activities. As a working Riding Centre with 12 horses and ponies, 3 dogs and 2 cats this apartment will suit animal lovers!

Accessibility
We welcome disabled visitors. The accommodation is on one level with a small step up to the apartment. Doorways may not be wide enough for wheelchairs.
Outside
Large patio with loungers, chairs and tables. The swimming pool is available from July to October, fresh water lake swimming all year round. Gas barbecue, sun terrace. We live in the farm house and are happy to either socialise or keep a low profile!
Coast/Beach
Some of the Algarve's most beautiful beaches are 20 to 30 minutes drive from Quinta da Bica. From the sandstone cliffs of Galé to the long flat golden sands of Salgados there is something for everyone. Boat trips can be taken from Albufeira Marina to reach beaches accessible only from the sea and to visit the atmospheric cliff caves or 'grutas'.
Golf
There are a wide variety of golf courses from 20 minutes away.
Special interest holidays
We offer Riding Holidays for all levels of rider. Varied off-road hacks and tuition from a patient and fully UK qualified riding instructor with 20 years teaching experience. As we accommodate small groups, great care is taken to ensure that activities are tailor-made to individuals abilities and aspirations. Beach rides are available on request. Our Riding Holidays are ideal for families or friends. Please note that our weight limit is 15 stone.
We also offer Active Holidays whether you want to get fitter and stronger, lose weight and tone-up or improve your all round health. Activities include Yoga, Pilate's, fitball, walking, cycling, resistance and cardiovascular training. These holidays will help kick start lifestyle change through diet and exercise and also include motivational techniques to help you reach your goals. As with our Riding Holidays, Active Holiday programs are specially designed to suit each individual guest.
Travel
Faro (FAO) is the closest airport, approximately 35 minutes drive away. Car hire is recommended. We can give contact information for excellent value car hire and reliable airport transfers.
Distances
S. B Messines is 2km (5 minutes) away, Silves 16km (15 minutes), and Albufeira 20km (20 minutes). We can provide a convenient base for anyone looking to purchase property in the Algarve as Messines is centrally placed and close to good road links to the coast, the Alentejo and Lisbon.
Further details
S. B Messines has a wealth of shops and facilities including banks, chemists, library, cinema and museums. There are regular markets locally, as well as a monthly market in the town. Good restaurants can be found in Messines as well as the surrounding villages. There are a number of water parks, Zoomarine and Aquashow to entertain the youngsters. The local Algarve Shopping at Guia has a great range of shops, eateries, a bowling alley and 9 screen cinema. (English language films have Portuguese subtitles) Albufeira and Praia da Rocha have a lively nightlife with a wealth of bars and clubs. During the summer on Friday nights, the Praça de Toros in Albufeira holds traditional Portuguese style bull-fighting. Unlike Spanish bullfighting the bull is put against a horse-rider who will stick decorative spears in the bull´s rump above the shoulders. After a maximum of 6 spears the rider leaves the ring. The bull then charges a dozen or so men. one of whom has to try to wrestle the bull as it charges towards him. The bull is not killed in the ring.
