Casa da Pedra is a modernised old stone village house with beautiful views from the first floor terrace and the garden. It has 3 bedrooms, a very spacious living room with open log fireplace, a large well equipped kitchen and a bathroom. There is a courtyard to the front of the property giving ample off street parking. It is within walking distance of 2 restaurants and just 2km from the historic town of Penela where there is a medieval castle. Penela has all modern facilities including a heated indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, library, cinema (at weekends), banks inc ATMs and a variety of shops.

Linen and towels are included. There is a change of linen provided for stays of 2 weeks. The property will be cleaned before your arrival and arrangements could be made for cleaning during your stay for which an additional charge would apply. |
Notes on accommodation
The property is simply but comfortably furnished and is the owner's Portuguese home. The first floor terrace, which faces south/south west, has garden furniture and sun loungers and is ideal for lazy lunches or dinner as the sun sets. As the house is stone built it remains cool in summer when temperatures can be high.
Accessibility
Sadly the property is not suitable for the disabled.
Outside
The garden is terraced and laid to grass. There is a barbecue and the upper part of the garden is shaded by a large walnut tree which offers protection from the midday sun.
Coast/Beach
Casa da Pedra is approx 45 mins from the beach at Figueira do Foz which is wide and sandy. The town itself is a busy seaside resort very popular with the Portuguese. There are also numerous other sandy beaches along the coast. There swimming pools in Penela, Miranda and Condeixa - all within a short drive. There is an open air purpose built facility with wave action at Casteneira da Pera and numerous river beaches close by.
Travel
A car is recommended to get the most from a holiday in the area. Porto Airport is about an hour and a half driving time, whilst Lisbon is around 2 hours.
Distances
The area is full of interesting towns and historic sites. Coimbra, Portugal's ancient capital and site of the country's premier university is about 25km away. Within an hours drive are Tomar, a UNESCO Heritage city, Bussaco Forest - site of one of Wellington's victories in the Penisular War, Fatima, the Pilgrimage site, Batalha, said to be Portugal's most beautiful building, and Conimbriga just 10 mins away - the best Roman site in Portugal. To name just a few!
Further details
All the basic facilities you would require are in Penela just 2km away. A bread van calls each morning outside the house and a fish van once a week. There are branches of Lidl and Intermarche a short drive away and several large shopping complexes in Coimbra.
Booking notes
Bookings may be made by email or telephone. A 20% non returnable deposit is required to confirm booking and the remainder due 4 weeks before arrival.
A damage deposit in the sum of £100 by sterling cheque is required with the final payment. This will not be cashed but will be returned within 2 weeks of the end of the letting if no damage has occurred.
