The apartment opens onto the sun terraced overlooking the olive grove. The area boasts many rare species of flora and fauna, including orchids, storks, birds of prey and wild boar and deer in countryside criss-crossed by tracks and lanes. Easy access to local markets, shops and the bakery at Santana there are several local restaurants too, serving traditional Alentejan cuisine and wines at very reasonable prices. We are near the historical sites of Castro da Cola and Silves Moorish Castle. There is boating and fishing on Santa Clara lake and we offer horseback riding on site. Our bicycles are provided free of charge for you to explore the hundreds of km of tracks. This is an ideal spot for birdwatchers, many rare species nest here. The area is renowned for the quality of light during the day and the clarity of the night skies. Alcaria Alta is an ideal base for those wanting to explore the benefits of the area, or simply to unwind in the magnificent surroundings.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in euros. Longer stays can be arranged at lower rates. Your dates are secured on receipt of your deposit. Please telephone or email us to discuss your needs. Welcome food package is provided, meals also available. Pets are welcome. We charge €20 per pet per week and ask for a deposit against damages on arrival.

Notes on accommodation
The farmhouse is newly built and furnished to a high standard. Air conditioning is a combined heating unit. Our bicycles are available to guests for exploring the miles of country tracks. The farmhouse apartment is non-smoking, but containers are supplied outside.

Accessibility
A ground floor apartment, with convenient access from the drive and parking area.
Outside
There is plenty of outside space for sitting and relaxing. A barbeque is provided. There are sun loungers, seats, tables and sunshades for outside living. The sitting areas overlook the olive grove. The pool is a surface splash pool (6m x 3m) as the area has an Ecological Reserve classification.
Coast/Beach
The Algarve beaches are about 45 minutes drive away. The largely undeveloped west coast is also 45 minutes away with many long, sandy stretches of beach and local village facilities. We are ideally situated for Monchique and the West Coast including Millfontes.
Golf
Algarve golf courses are within 25 minutes drive (Silves).
Special interest holidays
Horse riding is also available for guests as a part of their holiday. We have fit, healthy riding horses available for beginners or more experienced riders to enjoy this wonderful countryside. All the riding is off-road. We offer 1 to 3 hour rides as well as general horsemanship days. We also run specialist riding holidays. Please contact us for details. The area is ideal for walking and cycling too. Restriction on land use have resulted in unique views of olives, cork oaks and eucalyptus trees. The landscape is open (largely unfenced) which provides full access to walkers, cyclists and horseriders. The region is renowned for its flora and fauna, and artists visit for the quality of the light. The area is home to deer, wild boar and storks, martins, egrets and birds of prey. Our land is therefore an ideal base for walkers, bird watchers and those interested in the wildlife.
Travel
Car hire is essential. Faro is 45 minutes away. Lisbon is 2 hours away. Beja Airport (when open) 45 mins.

Gomes Aires (8km). Almodovar (16km). Santana da Serra (8km). Ourique (22km). Santa Clara Lake (15km). Monchique (40km).
Further details
We provide a welcome pack of local produce on arrival, including local wine and cheese, milk, bread, juice, water and tea and coffee. There is a comprehensive housebook detailing some places of interest in the area, including recommendations for visits, walks, restaurants, shopping guides and wildlife.
