1km from Arronches, a town included in the book 'The Most Beautiful Towns and Villages of Portugal', this Alentejo monte, easily accessible, is located about 130 miles east of Lisbon by freeway or by secondary roads. Restoration is expected to be completed by spring 2008 and is now booking. It is located on the Rio do Caia. There are fish - barbo, boga. axigan, carpa and enguias (small eel) available when the river is high. Designed by Richard Hiner Architects of Seattle, Washington. Construction of an outbuilding (formerly an animal house), containing a toilet, shower, laundry tubs and a washing machine, has been completed. All excavations and demolition are complete and reconstruction is nearly finished (new pictures, soon). The project is nearly ready for the finishing details. Booking and pricing ready for spring 2008, possibly earlier. Wifi ready.

1 K to Arronches vila, 22K To Portalegre and Campo Maior, 15K to IP2, 2 to 2 1/2 hours by car from Lisbon, depending on traffic through Lisbon, 45 minutes to Castelo de Vide, 30 minutes to Estremoz.

It is easily available for touring the Alentejo, its tourist towns, the many megalithic sites in Portugal, Spain, plus numerous sports activities. The dam 'O Barragem do Caia' is a few kms away. The old azenha (water mill) is named ‘O Moinho do Caia. Stay tuned for continually updated pictures and completion date. New pictures were added October 2007 Great views of the town across the river, 5 varieties of fish in the river that borders the property. It is very peaceful, in Portuguese 'sossegado'.
A sitting/wading pool is planned, a dishwasher, etc.
Activities: Hiking, biking, horseback riding, swimming, golfing and hunting are available in the area, as well as many tourist attractions nearby. Day trip to Trujillo, a wonderful city in Spain.
