The "O Monte Guesthouse" is just outside the village of Santa Catarina, in the triangle with both Olhao and Tavira on the coast. Although a very peaceful & quiet location it is not off the beaten track. Although the guesthouse is attached to the main house where the Dutch owner lives all year around, you have full privacy (see website for floorplan). Several breathtaking beaches are 15-20 km away, together with great seafood, the lovely island of Culatra off the coast of Olhao, cultural events in nearby Tavira and Faro. All year around, the "O Monte Guesthouse" makes a wonderful destination to unwind. If you would wish so and depending the season, we can arrange for you a walk in the hills, a boatride, different types of massages, foodcatering, ordering a taxi etc. All the beaches of the east Algarve are long, golden sand beaches with clear water which is the warmest in Sept. All beaches are part of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve and some can only be reached by a short ferry ride.

Changeover day
Changeover day in July and August will be a Saturday. We ask our guests to arrive only after 4pm and on the day of departure to leave at 10am at the latest, to have sufficient time to have the house ready again for the next guests.

The guesthouse is attached to the big house but is completely private. The kitchen has a gas stove with oven, a fridge and dining table. All is tasteful and well looked after.
The cozy en-suite livingroom has a woodburner, sofa and comfortable chairs.(+ small tv.with 4 pt.channels).
Outside a sunterrace, a shaded terrace with dining area and double bed and bbq. Sunbeds are by the pool.
Hallway. (with beautiful staircase and authentic floortiles)
Bathroom with toilet, large walk-in shower, bidet and basin and floor heating in wintertime.
Bedroom upstairs with 2 single beds that normally are attached. Entrance to a large roof terrace (+outside bed and hook for mosquito net) with great view ...and sunpanel.

Notes on accommodation
The guesthouse is warm and cozy during the winter months with its woodburner, attached to 3 radiators in the house and the floorheating in the bathroom.
In the warm summer months it stays relatively cool. The bedroom has a ceiling fan.
A spacious, rectangular mosquito net can be put over the double bed. One extra mosquito net is available for outside use, together with a hammock.
A baby cot and high chair can be made available.
A Cd-player/radio with some cd's and books are there .
Outside
In summertime one is welcome to pick figs of the many fig trees on the land surrounding the Guesthouse.
The pool (10x4) is surrounded by a flower garden and banana trees. Twice a week it is cleaned by Ralph, the pool man.
Depending a bit on the weather, normally the pool is ready to be used from beginning of May to the end of September.
In summer the owner may swim early morning and evening but always respecting your privacy.
There is a utility room with a washing machine available.
Golf
Presently there are about 25 golf courses in the Algarve. The number increases yearly (also just across the border, in Spain). The nearest courses east of Tavira are:
1) 30 min drive Quinta da Ria
2) 20 min drive Colina Verde
3) 25 min drive Benamor
West of Tavira:
4) 40 min drive San Lorenzo in Quinta do Lago
5) 40 min drive Vale do Lobo.
Travel
The Faro airport is 20 min away by car. To hire a car is essential in the Algarve. If you like we can hire a car for you. The rental firm will meet you at the airport.
Booking notes
When you book, we ask a payment of 40%. The other 60% must be payed 2 weeks before arrival.
In case of cancellation, the 40% deposit is non-refundable.
However, we try to pay you back all but 10% when we have a replacement booking !
We advise guests that they should also cover their own risk of cancellation in a holiday policy.
