Coast/Beach
Beaches in the Eastern Algarve are very clean with beautiful white sand gently sloping into the clean ocean, most are island beaches and are seldom busy. Beaches are generally accessible by cheap water taxis and small ferries, usually 2 Euros return. Terra Estrieta beach is reached by water taxi 250m from the apartment, 3 minutes ride over the lagoon for a fantastic quiet beach. Beautiful Barrill beach can be reached off the west end of the village cross the bridge the use the mini train.
Golf
Courses in the area are quieter and, generally cheaper than the main resort areas. Benamor golf is 5 a minute drive from the apartment, Benamor is a beautiful little test of golf and easily walkable, they do deals including buggies if, you don't fancy the walk. The challenging championship courses of Quinta da Lago, Quinta da Ria and Quinta da Cima are a further 5 mins along the same n125 road, both courses are walkable and, are a little more expensive than Benamor. Lots of other courses are only a short drive away, why not try Castro Marim, it is a hilly course just before the border with Spain (20 mins), take advantage of the deals including the buggy, my friends and I walked it and, paid the price! All of the courses of the central and Western Algarve (Vale do Lobo etc) are within easy driving distance along the IP1 motorway which runs the full length of the Algarve.
Special interest holidays
Walking, hiking and cycling are all very popular activities as well as bird watching in the Ria Formosa nature reserve. Fishing- Big game trips leave from Tavira and you can fish the lagoons free of charge, main species being Dorada, sole, scabbard fish, bass, ling etc. Boat fishing trips are readily available from many ports.
Driving into the countryside for a leisurely trip around the many towns and villages inland is also a popular pastime, a good suggestion is to follow the Guadiana river which forms the border with Spain, run right alongside the river on the tiny road up to Alcoutim, a lovely place to have lunch overlooking the river and, the Spanish village on the other side, a small ferry will take you across the river to visit!
Why not take the one day boat trip up the Guadiana river.
Travel
Faro airport is 30 mins by car approx 40km. Faro City centre is 25 mins along the N125 35km. Regular buses run to Faro city from the airport. Trains run regularly to Tavira from Faro. Car hire- Very cheap car rental is available using the owner’s contacts, quotes available on request. Airport transfers can be arranged. Car rental is not essential but, it is advised to get the best out of this beautiful unspoilt and diverse area.

Owner profile
About the owner
Managed By Alan Whittle of Atlas Properrty Services in Tavira, the apartment is owned by Carlos and Lena Viera, A Young Professional couple who live on the ground floor of the same apartment block.
Year purchased: 2003
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We bought the apartment because we fell in love with the village, its people and, the views from the terrace.
The apartment has easy access to Faro airport (30mins) and 20 mins to the frontier with Spain.
The Eastern Algarve cannot be overstated as being one of the last remaing unspoilt areas of europe, the food and wine here are second to none, the people are genuinly friendly and happy to help with anything they can.
The area is in the Ria Formosa Nature reserve and is an absolute haven for wildlife, birds, flora and fauna.
Unique benefits of the property
We love the proximity of the sleepy working fishing village of Santa Luzia with its many local bars and restaurants. Step out of the apartment and the nearest family run bar restaurant is 25m away without being any sort of nuisance to the apartment.
The people in the village are so friendly with a cheery smile as they greet you, all you need to do is look in their direction and make the first move by a quick "Ola" or "Bom Dia" / "Boa Tarde" / "Boa Noite" (depending on the time of day)
Food here is amazing, there are so many great quality restaurants in the village, it is fair to say that, it has more than its fair share.
The nearest Beach can be reached by water taxis 25mtrs from the apartment.
