Vila do Conde is an old town steeped in age and tradition with many buildings dating back to the sixteenth century. The lively area of Castelo in Vila do Conde is situated not only overlooking the ocean, but also the river Ave. There is a wonderful market on Friday's set under old plain trees. One of the main features is the Santa Clara Church and Monastery with the 999 arched aquaduct.

Accessibility
There are 4 steps leading to the lift - very easy for elderly.
Outside
There is a balcony with table and chairs overlooking the fort and ocean ideal for relaxing and watching the boats and sunset.
Coast/Beach
Directly in front are various beaches stretching 5km to Povoa da Varzim linked by footpath and cycle track. Some areas offer more shelter and safer areas for children while parts are popular with surfers and body surfers. Vila Do Conde is pedestrian friendly with many crossings. The beaches have security and lifeguards at hand. Beach tents can be hired from local beach cafes.
Golf
There is an 18 hole links golf course at Estela about 10km north towards Esposende. To the south of Oporto is Mirimar about 30 minutes drive with Amarante inland about 1 hours drive.
Travel
Oporto Airport is 20km south by the A28 motorway. Just under 2km upstream is the train/metro station which takes about 30 minutes from the airport with direct access to Oporto. Although there is a garage car hire is not essential unless one intends to explore other parts in the north of Portugal.
Distances
Vila do Conde has plenty to explore with many ancient monuments and churches with old cobbled streets linking generous open spaces beautifully landscaped. Oporto is circa 30km away with Vila Nova de Guia across the river Douro. Braga, Guimaraes cities are about 50km by motorway and Viana do Castelo 35km north.
Further details
Below is a famous bakery ideal for fresh bread and huge selection of cakes, there is also a very good pizza cafe for eating in or takeaway. Also in the parade are various cafes, bars and restaurants. The Fort in front hoasts a variety of activites including music concerts with trditional Fado music and dancing. There is a cocktail bar and restaurant. In the town centre there are many more facilities such as chemists, banks etc. 2 minute walk there is crazy golf and play area and within 10 minute walk swimming pool, tennis courts and further play areas and activities.
