Quinta do Scoto is a very different concept in Bed & Breakfast with spacious suites set around a pool and sun terrace or in the Manor House and has a long historic past. Originally built for the Marquis de Pomball's Chaplin. Napoleon's Army camped in the grounds during their invasion, attracted by the extensive water supplies, aquaducts and stone irrigation tanks. Located in the village of Melecas, is within walking distance of 5 cafes and 4 restaurants. A train station in the village provides links to Lisbon Sintra, Mafra and Obidos. Sintra is a 10 minute journey by car and a vast selection of beaches can be found within a 1/2 hour drive. Breakfast is served in the Entrada and comprises freshly baked bread, cereals, fresh fruit, cheese, ham, freshly squeezed orange juice, tea and coffee. If guests prefer, a basket of breakfast goodies can be delivered to their room for them to enjoy either in the comfort of their suite or at one of the many stone tables in the grounds of the Quinta.

Notes on prices
Suite prices are for 2 guests and include continental breakfast. Additional persons 15 or under are €15 each, 16 and over are €20 each, per night. Rates are for the Dom Fernando Suite, other Suites vary from an additional €10 to €30 a night more. Please e-mail for details.
For self catering suite only rates, or single occupancy, deduct €5 per person.
A 10% discount on a stay of more than 4 days.
For Christmas, New Year, Easter and other major Public Holidays, please e-mail for rate.

Notes on accommodation
Dona Maria and Marquis de Pombal Suites and the Count Redondo and Dom Fernando Suites have linking doors to provide greater flexibility. A mini-bar which is stocked on your arrival with complimentary beer and soft drinks. A bottle of wine is also provided to settle the dust after your journey. A coffee machine is available in each suite and a mini safe. We also provide a laptop which guests can use to connect to the Internet and to use Skype to make either free calls to another Skype user or to communicate with home through Skype at a very nominal cost compared to a normal telephone. The Entrada (where breakfast is served) and a large guest lounge are available for guests to relax, watch DVDs, read and play games. The lounge has a large billiard table for guests to use. All rooms are fully serviced daily with sheets replaced weekly and towels mid week or sooner should guests require. Beach towels are also provided. All suites are heated, have ceiling fans and cooled by the thick walls.
Accessibility
Our Adega suite and Suites Sr Miguel, Dona Maria & Marquis de Pombal Suites are located on the ground floor so are suitable for people who cannot manage stairs.
Sr Miguel Suite has been specially designed for wheelchair users, including wide doorways, large bathroom with hand rails and large shower with removable seat.
Outside
The Quinta is set in 7 acres (30,000 square metres) of rural grounds with interesting historic features that guests are free to enjoy. There is a large swimming pool (6m x 12m) available for guests to use, surrounded by sun terraces with sun loungers. Adjacent to the pool is a barbecue area with tables and chairs and a covered stone seating area. A guest kitchen is also provided although there are plenty of good restaurants in the local area. There is a fully enclosed patio adjacent to the house, with direct access from the Adega Suite but available for other guests to use as well, with tables and chairs, barbecue and sun loungers.
Coast/Beach
A vast selection of beaches can be found within a 1/2 hour drive, including Guincho, Cascais and Carcavelos. Some beaches can also be accessed either by bus or by taking the train to Sintra and then the a San Francisco type streetcar down to the coast.
Golf
Belas Clube de Campo is located 5km from the Quinta. Beloura Pestana Golf Resort is 10km away, as is Penha Longa Golf Resort.There is also a significant number of other golf courses within 30 minutes drive.
Special interest holidays
Horse riding is available within the Quinta grounds. Clay pigeon shooting is available 5km away and a local sports club for tennis and other games is available a 10 minute walk away. For walkers there are local walks with long distance views of the coast and much much more in the Sintra and Coastal areas together with Lisbon.
Travel
Lisbon airport is 22km away. Car hire is recommended but not essential. 10 minute taxi from Airport to a Lisbon station and then a direct train to Melecas village station (30 minute ride - €1.70).
Distances
Lisbon is 15km and Sintra is 7km away and both can be reached either by car or by train from the local railway station, the fare is less than 2 euros each way. Cascais and Estoril are a 30 minute drive. The Quinta is located in Melecas which is a village with 5 cafes and 4 restaurants all extremely inexpensive and typically Portuguese within walking distance and is close to other villages and small towns with many facilities.

The Casa is available to rent in it's entirety to provide accommodation for at least 17+ people in addition to accommodation in the Celeiro providing a total for 44 up to people. The Dona Maria and Marquis de Pombal Suites and Count Redondo and Dom Fernando Suites both have adjoining doors and can be rented together. Please e-mail for rates and information.
Booking notes
A deposit of one nights stay is required with a booking. Credit card facilities are available for the deposit payment with the balance on departure. Just in case, should you need to cancel your visit, there is the loss of one night's deposit. There is no loss for rescheduling dates.

About the owner
Tony, Penny and Charlotte are from the UK although we moved to Portugal from the States, where we spent nearly 5 years in Philadelphia.
You couldn't ask for a better life style than in Portugal, with it's sunny climate, safe environment and low cost of living - just visit the restaurants and cafes to see!
We didn't realise just how enjoyable having the Quinta would be and have made so many friends since we opened in 2008.

Why the owner chose a guest house in this location
Quinta do Scoto, which was built in 1746 for the Chaplin of the Marquis de Pombal, had not been lived in for over 25 years and was in need of complete refurbishment and tender loving care. Being part of the heritage of Portugal, with so many historical features, the facilities provided spacious accommodation that would naturally be a fascinating and luxury environment for visitors to relax and enjoy.
Located in a rural community with typical Portuguese Restaurants and good public transport, conveniently close to many palaces, heritage areas and attractions in Sintra, Lisbon and the surrounding areas. The Quinta is ideally situated to visit places of great interest and then to return to spend time relaxing around the large pool.
Unique benefits of the property
The needs of our guest are foremost. We provide drinks upon arrival, and in the suites a complementary minibar, tea, coffee and biscuits, a bottle of wine, pool/beach towels, room safe, wireless internet, restaurant translations, train timetables, information about the area, heating in the winter and cooling in the summer through the thick stone walls and ceiling fans, and of course a BBQ.
We provide breakfast to suite the reasonable needs of our guests, which is not only flexible but allows you to wake up in the morning without thinking that you have missed it.
Our suites are large and luxurious and furnished with antiques, most sleeping families and groups up to 6.
We treat guests as friends and become friends with our guest but are respectful for their privacy.
