There is a small garden at the front and a larger garden to the rear of the property with lawns, flowers and fruit trees as well as a swimming pool. The property has air conditioning/heating in the bedrooms and the lounge, with heating also available in the bathroom.

Notes on accommodation
The owner lives in separate accommodation on the premises for maintenance purposes and is usually available for any particular requests. Children of all ages are very welcome. There is a paddling pool and sandpit, a table tennis table and a selection of toys etc. The garden is safely enclosed with gates separating the different sections.

Outside
The main garden is to the rear of the property and off-street car parking is available. The pool is for private use and is approximately 7x5m. There is a large patio area around the pool and shady, secluded areas in other parts of the garden. Pool furniture and sun chairs, umbrellas and garden furniture are provided. There is a changing room with WC by the pool. A barbecue is available.
Coast/Beach
The coast, consisting of many long sandy beaches to the North and South of Porto, some with surfing facilities, is approximately 30/40 minutes' drive.
Golf
There are several golf courses within a 30-45 minute drive, both in Amarante and on the coast to the North and South of Porto.
Special interest holidays
Short courses in holiday Portuguese and personally guided day and/or half day tours are available as optional extras and tailor-made to match your interests. Linda, the owner, is passionate about scenery and has explored much of Northern Portugal. She is happy to share with you some of the best places to visit - not always in the guide books! She also speaks fluent Portuguse and can always help if necessary. Informal cookery demonstrations by local Portuguese people can also be arranged.
Travel
The nearest airport is Oporto airport, aproximately 25 minutes away. Cheap flights are frequent via Ryanair from Stansted, Bristol, Liverpool and Dublin. Car hire is essential for air travellers, and can be arranged on request. The nearest ferry ports are Santander and Bilbao, about 6 - 8 hours' drive. Acessibilty is constantly improving as the north of Spain and Portugal are now covered by an excellent motorway network.
Distances
The villa is on the edge of a busy local small town, Lousada. The nearest city, which is well worth a visit, is Porto and is 30 minutes' easy drive. There are a number of other towns all within 30 minutes' drive and areas of great scenic and natural beauty are within easy reach. It is also the ideal place to discover the 'real' working Portugal, to get to know some of the local people, who are among the most hospitable in Europe and to sample the local customs and traditions.
Further details
Local shops, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants are in the near locality. Lousada has branches of the main banks, cash points and a tourist office. There are indoor and outdoor public pools and gymnasiums, with other activities such as bowling and horse-riding within the area. The many local festivals and markets can be interesting, lively and fun to visit. The 'festas' in Lousada and nearby Penafiel, which take place at the end of July and in August are particularly fascinating with stunning firework displays and good live concerts and a tremendous atmosphere. The villa is a good base not only for visiting the Minho and Porto districts of Northern Portugal, but areas such as the 'Silver Coast', Coimbra and surrounding areas are within a day's drive for those who like to venture a little further afield.

Bookings can be made by telephone or by email. On booking, a 25% deposit is required, with the balance due 6 weeks prior to the date of arrival. Payment may be made by bank transfer or Paypal. The deposit is non-refundable.
