Built on a quiet hillside of ancient fig and almond trees above the Moorish fishing village of Salema, it has complete privacy, fantastic ocean views, and yet is only a 5 minute walk from the village and sandy beach with plenty bars, restaurants and small shops. Golf, tennis and water sports are all available close by.

Notes on accommodation
The spacious villa has a number of terraces. Three of the bedrooms have double doors leading on to the swimming pool terrace, the fourth bedroom has double doors on to its private balcony. The sitting room and kitchen open out onto a further terrace which has a built in barbecue and dining area and there is a further quiet terrace at the top of the garden, all have views of the ocean. The manager can arrange for cots and extra cleaning.
Outside
Swimming pool, 10m x 4.5m with solar heating, which allows swimming from April to October, is surrounded by a large sunbathing terrace. Magnificent ocean views. The terraced garden is laid out with flowering oleanders, hibiscus, plumbago and other shrubs. Complete privacy. The terrace off the living room has a built-in barbecue, built in granite table, canopies and other garden furniture. All the terraces have magnificent views of the sea.
Coast/Beach
Salema beach is sandy with rocks behind. Other very quiet sandy beaches along the coast are within 20-30 minutes walk or a 5 minute drive.
Dramatic beaches on the west coast for surfing are about a 30 minute drive away.
Golf
Parque de Floresta is a 4 minute drive away.
Travel
Faro airport is 1 hour 15 minutes drive or 3 hours to Lisbon. Most of the journey is now dual carriageway.
The manager can arrange car rental.
Distances
Salema is a five minute walk from the villa. It has shops and numerous various restaurants and a small open market some mornings for bread, fresh fruit, vegetables and fish. A larger supermarket is a five minute drive away at Budens. Lagos is the nearest town and is a 20 minute drive.

Casa das Andorinhas was built by an American couple in the 1970’s who had lived in the middle east and thus has a distinctive, serene Moorish style. Built as a spacious family home to a high standard, it has a stunning position overlooking the ocean and is completely private. It is built into the hillside with the garden laid out in terraces of flowering shrubs and trees – allowing all family members to have their privacy if required! The beaches at and near Salema are sandy with rocks behind. Beaches up the West coast, about 20 minutes drive from Salema, are huge and unspoilt with good surfing. Water sports and fishing are available through agents or direct booking. There are 2 water parks between Faro and Portimao. Golf, tennis and squash are available at the Burgau Sports Club, approximately 5 miles away and Parque da Floresta which is just 3 minutes drive from the house. Lots of interesting birds to see, including the red-rumped swallows flying over the pool in the evenings- after which the villa is named-Andorinhas. The Atlantic coast is dramatic and Cape St. Vincent is particularly worth a visit with amazing sunsets over the most south-westerly point of mainland Europe. Shopping, clubs and markets are all available at Sagres, Lagos, Portimao and Albufeira.
