Coast/Beach
6 beaches within 10 minutes drive - 1 further down road from house and 3 to the north near Aljezur and 2 to the south at Carrepateira.
Ammoreira beach is just to the north of Aljezur down a fascinating estuary valley with the added advantage of a natural pool area which is good for small children also a beach cafe. Monte Clerigo beach is accessed just before reaching Aljezur and has 3 beach cafes. Arrifana is popular with surfers.
Two more beaches south of house one the main surfing beach.
Golf
Golf courses on the south coast nearest 20 minutes away.
Special interest holidays
Excellent for surfing with surf school about 1/2 kilometre around the corner and several surf shops in Aljezur, also coastal walking, horse riding, exploration of countyside, beach life, beach cafes swimming and golf.
Travel
Approximately 1 hour and a quater from Faro airport. A car is essential. Take motorway road from Faro past Lagos and follow signs for Aljezur. Detailed directions will be given after booking has been received. Most of the journey is motorway and a relatively easy drive.
Distances
About six miles from Aljezur - a nice small working town with small minimarts for all essentials, many good quality restaurants, picturesque old town with a thousand year old fort. About 12 miles from Lagos on the south coast an impressive old town steeped in history with cobbled streets full of restaurants and interesting shops. Nearby are several former fishing villages such as Burgau, Salema and Ingrina. To the east from Aljezur is a winding road to the mountain town of Monchique.
Further details
Excellent for beach life, surfing, beach restaurants, swimming, exploring the countryside, walking, horse riding. Aljezur (about 10 minutes to the north) has an historic old town and the remains of a 1,000 year old castle, it also contains banks, mini marts, food market, excellent Portugese restaurants and other shops, squares and cafes. Lagos (about 25 minutes to the south) is a fabulous historic city with traffic free coble streets and many wonderful sights including a marina in the middle of the town! It has a large Intermarche on the approach to the town ideal if you want to do a large shop.
