Family friendly farmhouse and detached studio, set in a vineyard (producing Vinho Verde). Just inland from the local fishing town of Vila Praia de Ancora, a series of cobbled lanes wind their way to the little stone hamlet of Luga Da Aspra. The house has far reaching views across a picturesque rural landscape and towards the coast. There is a patio area under the vines, with BBQ. Very large above ground pool (June-Sept). The farmhouse, is a traditional house for the region, newly modernised, with the accommodation on the first floor. The kitchen is newly fitted with a wood burning stove and dining area seating 10. There are three bedrooms and a sofa bed in lounge. House bathroom has a freestanding shower and bath. The detached cottage (sleeps 2) has a double bed room with sofa, en-suite shower room, and separate kitchen. The ground floor provides a laundry room and wine cellar (barrels of wine). The river is less than 5 mins walk; Sea less than 10 mins drive.

Kitchen: In the main house there is a dining kitchen with cooker, hob, fridge and dishwasher. In the studio, there is a kitchen with integrated fridge and hob. In the cottage, there is a seperate kitchen which has a hob, cooking utensils and a fridge.
Utility Room: Washing machine, iron and ironing board.
Living Rooms: Lounge with large panoramic window offering fantastic views over the vineyard, and towards the mountains. The room has a double sofa bed, and leather sofa. Plasma TV with satellite, and DVD player. We provide children’s DVDs in English.

Bed linen is provided. There is a weekly maid service. Extra cleaning is available on request.

 

Notes on accommodation
Having three children ourselves, the house is very child friendly. There is a high chair, cot, potty, toddler toilet seat, pushchair, child gate, baby monitor, training cups, children's DVDs, a toy box, and a ready bed. Children can safely explore the gardens, hunting for the various fruits (picking oranges and making fresh juice is one of our children's favorite activities). Depending on season there are apple trees, lemon, orange, chestnut, plums, Sharon fruit, etc...

The detached studio provides an ideal haven for grandparents, family or friends - it is totally self-contained but still within close proximity to the house.

There is gas central heating, available at extra charge.

Outside
The property has 3 acres of mature gardens and vines. Guests can explore the gardens; relax in the shade under the vines.

The farmhouse has a spacious cobbled courtyard, patio area under the vines providing BBQ area with table, chairs, and umbrella for eating out.

There is also a pool for sole use of guests (available from June to September).

The Ancora river is less than 5 minutes walk, with a 'secret swimming spot' for the locals in the summer providing crystal clear waters which is great for swimming.

In the autumn guests are more than welcome to help with the grape harvest/wine making.

Coast/Beach
The nearest beaches are less than five minute drive away in Vila Praia de Ancora, where a wide range of shops, restaurants, and a daily fresh fish market can also be found. Afife beach is less than 3km, and has an excellent seaside restaurant, surf hire and lessons, and lifeguard. It also has a freshwater lagoon (safe and warm for children). Moledo beach is upmarket and chic.

Special interest holidays
There is excellent walking nearby. A good guide is the Sunflower Guide for Northern Portugal. There is a copy at the house.

Travel
The nearest airport is Oporto (Porto) which is less than an one hours drive (80km) mostly on motorway. Oporto is served by budget airline RyanAir which flies from Stansted, Liverpool, Bristol and Birmingham (from June 08). RyanAir also fly to Santiago de Compostelo in Spain which is about 140km to the north. TAP flies from Heathrow to Oporto. Car hire is essential. Oporto airport is well-served by car hire companies.

Further details
Two minutes walk from the house there is a local traditional cafe and shop. The shop sells basic items, and ideal for daily fresh bread. A beer is 70 cents, and a coffee 50 cents.

Vila Praia de Ancora (5 mins drive) has excellent shopping facilities, including a large supermarket, restaurants, cafes, banks and pharmacy. Major banks located in Vila Praia de Ancora - ATMs available.

Less than 10 minutes drive to beautiful clean and very quiet beaches. There are a couple of Surf schools at the local beach. There is a surf board and boogy board at the house for guests to use, free of charge.

Visit the beautiful Santa Luzia Church on the hill overlooking Viana Do Castelo, which has view of the Atlantic coast - described as the one of the best views in the world by National Geographic.

Fabulous markets at Vila Nova de Cerveira (Saturday), Viana Do Castelo (Friday), Caminha (Wednesday) and many others. Excellent current season clothes that are made in portugal, but sold at a fraction of the UK prices (prices start at 3 euro for mini Boden) There are also clothes from Boden, The White Company, Fat Face, White Stuff...

Wonderful countryside for walking (Sunflower Northern Portugal book has numerous walks within easy driving distance).

Visit the Peneda-Geres National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty, where you may spot the endangered royal eagle or catch a glimpse of an otter.

Follow the Vinho Verde wine trail along the banks of the Minho Valley which passes between undulating hills covered with the vines which produce the lightly sparkling and very tasty wine of the region.
