Quinta do Veloso is situated 4 miles from the beautiful fortified hill-top town of Elvas, with its magnificent Roman aqueduct, in an unspoilt part of Portugal. The countryside consists of rolling hills of olive trees and holm oaks, with fortified hill-top villages and castles. The farmhouse is a spacious traditional building which has been sympathetically renovated and equipped to a good standard. It has a 10m x 5m swimming pool. There is excellent local birdwatching with Hoopoe, Stone Curlew and Bee-eaters to be seen on and around the farm. Great Bustard can be seen near Elvas.

The farmhouse is situated in 46 acres. It has a 10m x 5m swimming pool, patio and barbecue.

Travel
Lisbon airport is 2 hours drive. Charter flights to Faro are less expensive but the drive from the Algarve will take twice as long. Ryan Air fly to Seville, which is 3 hours drive.
Car hire is available at airports. Advice on car hire will be provided on request.
Ferry to Santander in Northern Spain, then drive via Madrid or Salamanca and Cáceres through to Badajos and Elvas or ferry to L'Havre then drive via Bordeaux and either of the last 2 options. (Please ask for more information).

Further details
The Quinta is a 46 acre farm of olive and orange groves with almond, fig, pomegranate, walnut, plum, quince and persimmon trees, watered by a Moorish irrigation system. There are also sheep (with bells). It is looked after by an English couple, Gary and Lorraine Jones, who live in another part of the house and are on hand to deal with any problems. Guests are free to walk all round the farm, which is largely organic.

Quinta do Veloso was the perfect setting for a peaceful holiday in one of the most unspoilt parts of Portugal. The local town of Elvas was easily accessible, and we had several memorable trips to Evora, Marvao and Estremoz. The farmhouse was spacious and very well equipped. The swimming pool was a wonderful bonus and when the sun got too hot we retired to the pool house for a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and a siesta! Jean and Mike Vaughton
