Charmingly renovated 1/2 bedroom traditional village house (sleeps 3+1 baby) with a south facing balcony and sheltered external courtyard. Casa Papagaio is centrally located in Espiche village and within easy walking distance of all the village amenities. The proximity of Espiche to both Lagos and Praia da Luz make this an ideal base to experience Portuguese village life and explore the local area. The nearest beach is at Praia da Luz, a 5 minute drive or a 15 to 20 minute walk. We cater for any special occasion and can arrange, a celebration cake, champagne, flowers etc. or a home made meal ready with wine for you to heat up if you have a late arrival.

Changeover day
Arrival day is flexible. Normally you will be required to arrive after 2pm and depart by 11am on your day of departure to allow for cleaning. However if no clients are checking in or out on your dates, arrival and departure times are completely flexible.

Notes on accommodation
The property has an eco stone heating system both upstairs and downstairs for winter comfort. External blinds and fan in main bedroom for summer coolness. The 2nd bedroom is unsuitable for young children as it is located in the annex. The 2nd bedroom only has storage drawers under the bed. Travel cot and highchair available.
Accessibility
This property is suitable for people with a normal range of mobility. The steps in the house and the steepness of some of the streets in Espiche make this unsuited to people with mobility problems.
Outside
Master bedroom leads onto south facing balcony with views over village and toward Praia da Luz. 2 reclining chairs for relaxing plus table. Rear courtyard has a wooden table and chairs, sun umbrella and a barbeque. Outside tap with hose. Ideal area for storing and washing surfing equipment.
Coast/Beach
5 minute drive or 15 to 20 minutes walk to Praia da Luz beach. This safe sandy bay with lifeguard has water sports available and sunbeds and shades to hire if required. The rest of the large bay is flanked by spectacular cliffs offering panoramic views and clifftop walks. The Eastern and Western tips of the bay have fossiled rock and many rock pools to explore. Many more spectacular beaches to explore locally including the dramatic west coach beaches about a 15 minutes drive away.
Golf
Espiche campo de golf and Boa Vista 5 minutes drive. Palmares 10 minutes, Parque da Floresta 15 minutes, Penina 20 minutes. Morgdala 30 mins. All top class 18 hole courses.

Riding holidays through our concord with the local riding school at Almadena. Lessons in a sand arena or explore the local countryside.
Surfing and or Yoga hokidays through our connection with the Algarve Surf School and Estrela Yoga. The west coast is a surfers paradise and is easily accessed from Espiche by car.

Travel
Faro airport (nearest) is a 50 minutes drive away on the new motorway. Car hire is recommended for exploring the local area but is not essential. There is a regular bus service from Espiche to Lagos (where other coaches or trains can be caught) and also to Praia da Luz and Burgau. A taxi from the airport costs around 75 euros. Train links from Faro to Lagos.We can arrange pick ups from Lagos rail station.
Distances
The seaside village of Praia da Luz is a 5 minute drive away and the historic town of Lagos is a 5km, 10 minute drive. The scenic mountains of Monchique are 40 minutes inland, as is the historic old centre of Silves with its castle. The whole coastline has an extensive range of spectacular sandy beaches to explore.

Espiche village is a typical Portuguese village It has a food market, grocery stores, a small supermarket and multibank machine. There are several cafes and 3 restaurants in the village. Espiche is surrounded by countryside and vineyards for walking, whilst the beach at Praia da Luz is just a 5 minute drive away.The seaside village of Praia da Luz has a larger choice of supermarkets, a bank, a cinema, a large choice of cafes and restaurants, a chemist, 24 hour, health spa, multilingual medical centre, 2 boutiques, hairdressers, beauty salons etc.
The Algarve is renowned for its beauty, stunning beaches and coatline and of course sunshine.

About the owner
My name is Susan. I was born and raised in England where I studied Fine Art and now live in the Algarve with my Brazilian born partner Peter and surf mad son Adam.
I always had a desire to live in warmer climes and after looking around Europe settled 10 years ago in the South West of Portugal where the sun warms my body and the light and beauty calm my restless mind and feed my artistic spirit. I teach yoga and painting and in my leisure time enjoy the beaches, my horses and the rest of my menagerie. Everyday I feel blessed to live in such a wonderful part of the World, doing the things I love with such incredible people. I am inspired by: all my students, my clients, my friends, my family and the nature that surrounds me. Portugal is both my place of residence and my spiritual home.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
My partner and I saw this property for sale in our nearby local village and within half an hour of being shown around made an offer on it. We just instantly clicked with its light and happy energy.
We wanted somewhere close to our own home where friends, family, clients and work colleagues could stay and enjoy a real Portuguese experience.
This house ticked all of the boxes in terms of location and charm and with a little T.L.C. we updated it to enjoy modern comforts.
The village is a great base to explore the region and neighbours the pretty beach resort of Praia da Luz.
The nearby delightful historic town of Lagos with its old centre is perfect for shopping, shopping, nightlife or to catch up on some culture.
The village has several shops, cafes, restaurants and a market.
