The house in Cano is a labyrinth of courtyards, rooms and living rooms that transport us in time and make us return to childhood so as to enjoy completely the wonders of a place so full of magic and secrets. The house was built sometime in the seventeen century. Initially here lived a bishop who left a marvelous legacy which was only discovered some years ago in a secret passage through another house. In it we can find a praying place which walls and ceiling are all fresco-painted with magnificent scenes of biblical content. A modern and beautiful pool is surrounded by old orange trees where one can rest on the shade of the grapevines.

Notes on prices
Rates are per property per week. Prices of meals are provided on request. An extra fee of 200 € per week is charged in winters for the wood and house heating.

The house and gardens are set in 1 hectare of land. It has many traditional courtyards for eating and relaxing, beautiful gardens, a orange grove and a modern and beautiful pool surrounded by old orange trees where one can rest on the shade of the grapevines.
Golf
The nearest golf course is in Marvão, a 45 minutes drive. Covering 137 hectares of Parque Natural da Serra de São Mamede, the Ammaia Club de Golf do Marvão is the first golf course in the North Alentejo region. Designed by the Portuguese architect Jorge Santana da Silva, the course has undulating greens, a large number of bunkers and four lakes.
It is an 18 hole course, par 72 (6.036m), facilities include a driving range, putting green, pitching area, trolleys, buggies, caddies, club hire, pro shop, restaurant, bar, terrace and swimming pool. The second nearest golf course is just accros the border in Spain also a 45 minute drive.

Delicious local meals, such as Alentejo Traditional Tomato Soup, Alentejo Bread Soup with Garlic, Coriander, Olive Oil and Poached Eggs, Sliced Alentejo Bread, Dogfish (small shark) and Coriander Soup, Gaspacho (Cold Tomato-based Raw Vegetable Soup), Lamb Stew, Baked Leg of Lamb, Pan-fried Mashed Bread in Olive Oil served with Rib Meat Pieces, Pan-fried Pork and Clams served with Potatoes and Coriander, Baked Dried Codfish with Olive Oil, Potatoes and Onion, Chicken Stew in its own Blood and Pan-fried Pork Meat and Mashed Potatoes served with Tomato Sauce, prepared by the house cook, are provided on request.
Travel
One and a half hour drive from Lisbon airport or 45 m drive from the local Spanish border.
Distances
The local historic town of Estremoz with a weekly open market and supermarkets is 23 km away. Cano has some local shops and a chemist. Cottage hospital and doctors are located in Estremoz. World Heritage town of Evora is 60 km away.
Further details
Historical Towns: Evora with the Roman remains of Diana’s temple. The largest Roman villa remains on the Iberian Peninuslar outside of Monforte. The caves of Escourial near Montemor to name but a few.
The countryside can be explored in the family's Victoria horse carriage.

Booking notes
A fee of 150.00 euros is paid upon booking. This is a non refundable reservation deposit. The outstanding amount is paid in full 28 days before arrival date. A deposit against breakages of 250.00 euros is handed to the owner upon arrival and returned in full except if there are any breakages, upon departure of the house.
Payment can be made into an English bank account at the equivalent exchange rate or payment in euros using Western Union directly to a Lisbon post office. Details given.
