Sintra is the centre of a World Heritage site surrounded by wooded hills and facing the Atlantic coast about 12 km away by road. It has a unique climate, cool in Summer, mild and romantically misty in Winter. The predominantly 19th C. architecture, luxuriant trees and parks, historic royal Summer palaces give Sintra its distinctive character. The town is overlooked by the ruins of a fortress dating back to the Almoravid occupation of the region. The Sintra - Colares area food and wine superb. Excellent restaurants with wide price ranges abound in the area. Lisbon centre, 25 km away by road, 35 minutes by rail. Trains run at 20 minute intervals and connect to the Lisbon Underground system. Lisbon trains run until 2a.m. Cascais and Estoril easily reached by road or bus. Airport pickups an extra option by arrangement 25 E. Taxi +-40 E.

Linen and towels supplied (2 sets in flat) professionally laundered and packed. Professional cleaning on change-over days. Vacuum cleaner and utensils also supplied. A check-out cleaning fee of 50 euros is paid on arrival. |
Notes on accommodation
Pets are accepted if not outsize or dangerous. Kindly mention pets when making a booking to avoid later problems. The flat is, in principle, unsuitable for children except for very small babies (with own cot). Please contact us for more details and photos.

Accessibility
The apartment is at garden level. The property is however raised above street level and there are steps at the entrance, in the apartment and onto the terrace. It is not ideal for wheelchair users.
Outside
Adjacent terrace for the exclusive use of the apartment tennant. All day sun and furnished with table, chairs and lounger. Sunshades and barbecue with starter pack coal etc.
Coast/Beach
The Atlantic coastline and the Estoril and Cascais beaches are all easily accessible either by car or bus. Bus and train time-tables and road maps will be available in the flat. Sheltered by tall rocks and mountains Adraga beach, 20 minutes away by car. There is an excellent seafood restaurant for lunch or dinner. A restored early 20th C. electric tram runs on weekends from close to the house to the Praia das Macas, a wide sandy beach, through the village of Colares.
Golf
Golf clubs at Estoril and Cascais.
Special interest holidays
Photographic excursions and sightseeing or walking tours with or without guide can be arranged if planned in advance. Translation and reliable baby-sitting services on request. English, Portuguese, German spoken. French, Spanish and Italian adequate. Sintra is at the centre of a hikers paradise for land and coastal trails. Excellent Health Club in Cascais is available at 45 euros per day.
This is also an ideal pad for the single traveller. Especial attention given to women travelling alone.
Travel
Pickups from Lisbon international airport can be arranged if booked well in advance. Taxi fare from the airport is about 40 euros. Distance to the airport is approx 30km. Public transport is also an option. Details given on request by e-mail.
Distances
The distance to Lisbon is about 26km and out of rush hour about 25 minutes by car on a good highway. A train runs every 20 minutes and takes about 35 minutes to central Lisbon and underground connections. Two train stations each about 7 minutes walk. From Sintra, many interesting daytrips can be made either by car or bus. We will be glad to help plan excursions, to places and events of interest.
Further details
Shops, banks, and a market for fresh produce, bakery, cafés and restaurants are all within a few minutes walking distance.
The 'Feira' at Sao Pedro de Sintra on second and last Sunday every month, colourful and wide-ranging, from flea market section to factory reject clothes, local cheese, chorizos, olives and bread.

Bookings are accepted on non-returnable payment of 30% of rent, the balance payable on arrival.
