Duas Quintas, set in the green, fertile orange growing area of Silves, is an oasis of peace and tranquility. The original farmhouse was professionally renovated in 2006 and combines a unique blend of traditional features and modern comfort. Here, in 15 acres of private grounds, guests can relax by the pool or explore their surroundings. The 12m x 6m pool is surrounded by orange trees, and there is a large sun terrace with sunbeds and sunshade. Close to the pool is our very popular, fully equipped, guest BBQ, table tennis and boules court. Nature lovers and families will be delighted by the variety of wildlife. There are many excellent walks in the area, some starting from just outside the gate. Duas Quintas is centrally located and is an ideal starting point from which to explore all areas of the Algarve. Portimao is only 15 mins drive away, Lagos, 30 mins and Monchique, 30 mins. In just over 15 mins you can drive to some of the most beautiful beaches on the Algarve.

Four large double bedrooms with private entrance, patio area and seating outside.
There are attractive high wooden ceilings, original stone walls, full length shutters, air conditioning and double glazing.
The rooms have been tastefully decorated, with traditional Portuguese furniture.
The large en suite bathrooms are fully tiled and there is abundant hot water.
Tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, satellite TV and free internet access.
One Large twin bedroom with all the above facilities but decorated in a modern style. This room has been specially adapted for guests with limited mobility.
The studio has all the above facilities plus a fully equipped kitchen, including washing machine. There is a living area with double sofa bed, ensuite bathroom and bedroom area with double bed.
All guests have access to our guest fridge, which is convenient for storing snacks and BBQ supplies. However, we also keep a well stocked honesty bar with wine, beers and soft drinks.

 

Notes on accommodation
We like to welcome you personally with a a complimentary drink on arrival. All bedrooms are non smoking. Most rooms can fit an extra bed. There is ample parking and we are happy to arrange your transfer from the airport -details on request. Children are very welcome and this is a paradise for families to explore and play in together. Parental supervision is of course expected at all times. If you want a night out on your own while staying with us, we can arrange an English speaking babysitter. Air conditioning available in all rooms at a small charge. At Duas Quintas we believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Where possible local, fresh produce is used. Start your meal with a choice of cereals, porridge, yogurt or fresh fruit. Every day, Mary prepares a simple but different cooked dish. Complete your meal with fresh bread, homemade preserves, local cheeses and homemade scones or cake. Fresh orange juice from our own trees is available most of the year.

Accessibility
1 twin bedroom has been prepared with guests with limited mobility in mind, but it is not suitable for wheelchair users. The ensuite bathroom has no steps to the shower and handrails are provided. There is a small lip on entering the bedroom through the double door and 1 step on the terrace area between the bedroom and the dining room. Breakfast can be served on the guest's patio if preferred. Access to some of the areas outside would be restricted. There is a ramp to the pool area.

Outside
One of the main features of Duas Quinta is the 12m x 6m pool. The size and shape of it gives you the option of having a real swim or simply cooling down and relaxing. You can sunbathe on the terrace or amongst the orange trees with a much appreciated breeze usually blowing through the summer afternoons. Take a book from our guest library and stay with us for the day. The honesty bar is only a few steps away, everything you need to truly chill out. A barbecue area, close to the pool, allows you to cook your own lunch or evening meal. We provide all the equipment, will order your meat or fish and even do the washing up!
We also have a table tennis table and boules court.
Once a thriving fruit farm, Duas Quintas has over 1500 orange trees as well as plum, lemon, olive and nespera trees. It is a bird lovers paradise with storks, hoopies, swallows and buzzards. Wildflowers abound in the springtime. Close to the house, the gardens have been developed, with areas for sitting and relaxing.

Coast/Beach
15 mins drive away are some of the best beaches on the Algarve. To name just a few - Marinha, Caneiros and Benagil are small bays with spectacular rock formations, Armacao de Pera and Gale have long, sandy, open beaches. There are excellent cliff walks and opportunities for dolphin watching, scuba diving and boat trips.
There are two large water parks nearby -an excellent day out. Adults and children both also enjoy the ocean theme park at Zoomarine, only 15 minutes drive away.

Golf
Golf is one of the main reasons visitors come to the Algarve, and it is now Europe´s foremost winter golfing destination. There are over 30 separate golf courses on the Algarve alone. Also nearby are the Vale De Pinta and Gramacho sister courses, both designed by Ronald Fream to cause minimum environmental disruption, and the 9 hole Vale de Minho in Carvoeiro, ideal for beginners and short game practice. This area is ideal walkers and we keep a number of walking books with routes and maps for walks of varying degrees of difficulty. We have walk guides for walks starting from the house and keep up to date with the many organised walks that take place on the Algarve each week. Alternatively, if guests would like us to lead a walk for them, we are happy to do so.

Travel
The nearest airport is Faro airport, approximately 45 mins drive. We will send you directions when you book.
In order to avail of all the facilities this part of Portugal has to offer, we strongly recommend that you hire a car. Most of the major car hire companies have a pick-up facility at Faro airport. Alternatively, if you wish to begin you holidays with a few days of relaxation, we can pick you up at the airport and arrange for our local car hire company to bring your car to you.

Further details
Once the capital of the Algarve, Silves is fascinating to explore with its famous medieval castle, its Gothic cathedral and small chapels, its cobbled streets and squares, its small shops and friendly tradespeople. There are many excellent restaurants to choose from, and numereous cafes, particularly along the riverside where visitors and locals alike come to sit and relax during the long summer evenings. There is a fresh fruit and vegetable market every morning and on Saturdays this spills out onto the street as farmers come in from the outskirts to sell their local produce. In Summer, spectacular shows are held at Fabrica do Ingles, a former cork factory. Silves has 4 banks, 2 supermarkets and a day time emergency healthcare facility.
August is the month for the delightful medieval fair, when Silves returns to its medieval days, exchanging candle light for electricity,cooking in the streets and with a variety of entertainment from belly dancers and snake charmers to jousting and music.
Portimao is the nearest city. It has a good shopping area and an excellent marina, where in the summer months, the famous sardine restaurants turn out thousands of tasty barbecued sardines.Praia de Rocha is the night capital of the Algarve, with bars, discoteques and clubs open till late.
Algarve Shopping is a large, modern shopping centre with restaurants, cinemas and a bowling alley.
To the north of Silves is the mountaineous area of Monchique and the famous spa at Caldas de Monchique. To the west is the pretty town of Lagos, with beautiful beaches and famous boat trips to the grottos. Further west, the scenery changes dramatically, with less population, beautiful rugged coastline and excellent surfing facilities. If you are looking for family entertainment, choose from Zoomarine, near Guia, a superb ocean theme park, reputedly the best in Southern Europe or Slide and Splash near Lagoa and Aqualand near Alcantarilha, 2 large water parks promising great fun for all the family.
