Changeover day
Changeover day in the peak season of July/August is on a Saturday. Arrival is at 1600 hours and departure is by 10.00 hours. Luggage may be left on earlier arrival by prior consent. Outside the peak season changeover can be discussed with the owners.

Accommodation

Notes on accommodation
The villa is suitable for children of all ages. There is a video and DVD player in the lounge with a selection of children's DVDs. Access to the pool is from three of the rooms at the rear of the villa through patio doors. If you want to keep an eye on the pool whilst in the shade you can do so by looking from the dining room window or from around the pool changing area itself. The villa has a spacious roof terrace with tables and chairs from which you have delightful vistas of the surrounding area and countryside. The villa is well lit outside by movement sensor lighting.

Accessibility
The villa is situated in large grounds at the end of a private lane in a small development of detached houses. It is not really suitable for people in wheelchairs as there are a number of steps in the garden, however access to the pool area could be achieved without need to use steps and the house itself would be suitable.

Outside
There is a private swimming pool (9.5 metres x 5 meters) which is sunny, private and not overlooked.

Coast/Beach
The coast is approximately 10 kilometres from the villa. The nearest beaches are at Gale and Albufeira. The entire Algarve coastline is bounded by large expanses of delightful beaches which are a short drive away. Praia da Albufeira: A large but busy beach, really three beaches fused as one. Praia da Balaia: A serene, peaceful beach with large car park, bars and restaurants and lifeguards (in season). Quinta do Lago: An ideal location for surfing and windsurfing.

Golf
The Algarve is a mecca for golfers. Many golf courses, suitable for all abilities can be found in the surrounding area. For example the famous courses at Vilamoura are approximately 30 minutes drive away.
Balaia: A 9-hole executive golf course, with driving range and golf academy. Lessons are given in English, Portuguese and German. Club and trolley hire is available. Handicap certificate and appropriate dress necessary.
Pine Cliffs: A 9-hole course, offering a world famous and challenging cliff top course. Current handicap certificate of 36 for men and ladies. Strict dress code. Driving range, academy club hire and trolleys available.
Vilamoura : Four 18 hole courses, with a fifth under construction. Driving range, club, trolley and buggy hire.

Travel
The nearest airport is Faro which is about 40 minutes drive away. Car hire or car use is essential. The villa is conveniently situated for travel to both east and west Algarve. The Algarve has a good system of motorways
and nowhere is very far to reach.
Go to Lisbon for the day and see the sites - it's only two hours away by express train from Tunes Station (15 minutes from the villa). Visit the Oceanarium with the largest collection of marine life in Europe.
Spain is an hour away by car.

Distances
Foral is about 3km north of Paderne and 10km north of Albufeira.
Nearby places of interest include the medieval town of Silves and the pretty mountain village of Alte. Access to east and west Algarve is relatively easy and quick along the EO1 motorway. Portimao a centre for sardine fishing is about 25km. Boat trips can be taken and fish restaurants line the water front and also across the river at Ferragudo. Caldas de Monchique is a spa south of the city of Monchique a little bit further away.

On arrival at the villa, you will be provided with a folder containing information on the area, activities and other tips. Within 5 minutes drive from the villa are three good local restaurants.
Shopping - A large shopping complex (open from 9 am to 12 pm) with supermarket, multi-screen cinema, bowling, restaurants and cafes/bars can be found within 20 minutes drive, near Guia. A lively market can also be found at Messines, 20 minutes away. Paderne is a typical, quaint Portuguese village with a number of small shops, bars and restaurants. The remains of a 12th century Moorish castle known as Castelo de Paderne overlook the village.
Details of the many activities that are available in the local area are all in the Welcome Book and pack that is provided for you in the villa.
Markets - Albufeira has a fish market and a market held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month by the Orada chapel.
Loule market is held every Saturday in the centre.
Childrens Activities - Zoomarine is an aquatic park at Guia. There are two public swimming pools, a dolphin show, seal and parrot performances, bird of prey shows, a small theme park area and an aquarium museum. Opening at 10:00h and closing at 18:00h, 19:30h during most of July and August.
There are at least 2 large water-slide parks along the N125 - Slide and Splash, west of Lagoa and Aqualand - The Big One, near Albuferia. Krazyworld at Algarve Zoo has live shows with Amazon creatures, a fairground, mini-golf, petting farm, ponies, a pool and restaurant. It can be found near Messines.
Other activities - Go-karting can be found at Almancil. The Val do Lobo Tennis Academy offers court hire and coaching for adults and children. Centro Hipico Paraiso dos Cavalos near Almancil is a riding centre for horse-riding at all levels.
Mountain bikes can be hired at Ciclo Evento in Albufeira.

Booking notes
A 25% deposit is needed to confirm a booking. The balance is payable 8 weeks before the start of the holiday. Booking can be done mainly over the internet and payment is usually by cheque.
