All the cottages are detached, set against terraces offering many places to relax in privacy. The pool has a large stone terrace with views towards the river Olo and its cryslal water and hills covered with trees. With the farm bounded by 2 rivers we can arrange white water rafting and canoeing as well as fishing and hill walking. We have a jeep suitable for safari through the mountains and eucalyptus plantations. In Amarante apart from a market, many bars and restaurants there is an 18 hole golf course, aqua park and sports centre for many activities as well as tennis. With the A4 Mtorway 6km away both the coast and inland cities like Vila Real, Braga and the Douro Valley are all less than 1 hours drive.

Changeover day
Particularly in peak season we take bookings for a minimum of 1 week Saturday to Saturday. During low season we cater for weekend breaks at 50€ per night.

Accommodation
Check availability Orange Tree Cottage (2 bedrooms, sleeps 4/5)
There is a double bedroom and further bedroom with 2 single beds together with a futon in the other main room. The kitchen and diining room wth futon are together. There is a gas cooker/oven, fridge freezer, toaster, electric kettle and microwave oven. There is also a wood burning stove if needed and electric radiators for off season bookings. The bathroom is equipped with shower, toilet and washhand basin. Outside there is a canopy of vines for shade private sitting dining area and barbeque.

 

Check availability Olive Tree Cottage (1 bedroom, sleeps 2/3)
This is a 1 double bedoom cottage with en suite bathroom consisting of shower, toilet, bidet and wash basin. There is a separate sitting room with sofa bed leading out to a private terrace with seating area and barbeque with and gardens. The kitchen dining room has gas cooker/oven, fridge, electric toaster and kettle. There is also a wood burning stove and old bread oven as a feature. Electric radiators can be provided if needed.

 

Check availability Fig Tree Cottage (1 Bedroom, Sleeps 2/3)
This is a newly renovated stone cottage with open plan kitchen/dining and lounge area. In the kitchen area there is an electric fan oven/grill with gas hob and extractor.
There is also a dishwasher, fridge together with electric kettle, toaster and microwave oven.
Above via a secure spiral staircase is a large bedroom with double bed and sofa bed. The ensuite bathroom consists of 1.20m shower cabin, wash basin and toilet.
The bedroom can also be reached by external stairs via a private terrace.
Access to the swimming pool is via further steps.
Also externally is a covered area offering shade and shelter if raining.

 

Notes on accommodation
There is a childrens play area with swings and a cot is avaiable. Although the solid stone cottages offer a cool refuge during very hot days we can provide fans.

Outside
The shared pool and pool house which sits above Casa da Ponte benefits from early sun. It is an unusual shape being 9m long, 6m wide at the shallow end and 4m wide at the deep end. The shape accommodates more people and children with its larger shallow end. There are many places to relax on park style benches in the extensive grounds. The pool house has an open kitchen dining area with attached shower bathroom facility. The terrace to the front is built in stone and was orinally for drying maize. At first floor level is a further double bedroom ideal for large bookings.

Coast/Beach
The coast is about 1 hours drive where there are numerous beaches up and down the coast. The rivers also provide swimming on the doorstep.

Golf
Amarante 18 hole golf course is 8km away and is equipped with restaurant and bar. Golf buggies and clubs are available for hire and apart from a golf range there is also a shop. The course is reckoned to be the finest inland course in Portugal and benefits from consistent water supply ensuring it is always green and inviting.

Special interest holidays
Apart from the jeep safari at Casa da Ponte we can explain in detail methods of wine making from planting, pruning and maintaining vines though to grape production, harvesting and processing.

Travel
The airport in Oporto is about 1 hours drive. Generally a taxi costs 5€ from Amarante and there is a regular bus to town from Casa da Ponte. With the new metro linking the airport to Oporto it is easier to travel on public transport although for getting around a car is an advantage.

Distances
Fridao the nearest village is 3km and also has an internet cafe. Amarante is 5km as is the motorway linking to many places of interest in the North of Portugal. There is a direct bus route to Santa Catarina in Oporto the main shopping street, with the advantage of no parking costs or problems.

Further details
There are a range of shopping facilities in Amarante with 2 main supermarkets and several discount store. On Wednesday and Saturday the is an open air market.

Having checked out availability either phone or email to make a reservation. We normally take 50% of the booking cost at time of booking and can except euros or sterliing. The balance is due on arrival. We will send usually by email a contract confirming the booking details etc.

We have been accepting guests here since 1999 and generally people describe Casa da Ponte as paradise.
