The villa is 5 minutes outside the village of Santa Catarina, which has a petrol station, a bank, a pharmacy, mini-markets, bars and cafes. Set between Tavira and Sao Bras, the house is a good base for birdwatching, walking and cycling. There is a choice of sandy beaches, you can surf, windsurf and kitesurf at some. There are also several golf course this side of the Algarve now. For those historically minded there are the towns of Tavira, Loule, Faro & Estio to explore, while the Ria Formosa National Park is a must for naturalists. All accommodation is on the ground floor (not the roof terrrace!). There is underfloor heating/cooling throughout and satellite TV. The approximately 8m x 4m saltwater pool is heated. The discreet owners, who live next door, are on hand for help or advice.

Accessibility
All accommodation is on the ground floor, other than the roof terrace. Although there are terraces around the house, the rest of the land is rocky and rugged and the drive is graveled.
Outside
There is an approximately 8x4m private, salt water heated pool with a shower (cold). It is surrounded on two sides by the terrace with a six-place table and chairs and sunloungers and has extensive long distance views.
There is a further garden conveniently leading from the kitchen with a barbecue and large table and chairs for alfresco dining. Although there are mature trees, the gardens are relatively new, like the house.
Coast/Beach
The house is 20 to 25 minutes drive from the lovely sandy beaches this side of the Algarve, which are on "Ilhas" (sandbanks). They are accessible by ferry for minimal cost, other than the beach at Barril, where you can either walk the causeway or take the cheap, mini train.
Golf
There are now seven golf courses this side of Faro: Colina Verde, 9-hole and par 28, Benamor, 18-hole and par 71 and Quinta da Ria, Quinta da Cima, Monte Rei, Castro Marim and Quinta do Vale, all 18-hole and par 72. These are within 20 to 30 minutes drive.
Travel
The local airport is Faro and it is 20 minutes drive away. Due to the country location of the villa, car hire is essential. Due to the secluded nature of the villa the last mile to the house is a farm track.
Distances
San Bras is a 20 minutes drive away and has an interesting museum/ art gallery good restaurants, a weekly market and Intermarche supermarket if you want English products. There is a Lidls if you prefer somewhere cheaper. 20 minutes away in Tavira there are many churches, the salt flats, the castle and a daily market. Again there are many good restaurants and cafes where you can sit outside and enjoy views of the river or the architecture for which it is renown.
Further details
Estoi's Pink Palace and the roman ruins nearby at Milrue are 30 mins drive and worth a visit. Loule is the same distance and has fine architecture, a castle, museums and shops, mainly shoe shops. Faro, the same distance, has the marina, a beautiful old town and all the restaurants and shops you could want. For something quieter a 30 minute drive down the coast are the old fishing villages of Santa Lucia, Cabanas and Cacela Velha.Santa Catarina is 5 minutes drive, there are mini markets, Loga Fresca has a good selection. There's a cash machine, a pharmacy and a newsagent's where you can get English papers and stamps. There is a sprinkling of cafes and bars.

Guest comments
‘My husband, parents & I stayed in this beautiful villa at the end of March. The location is stunning with wonderful views all around. The villa is newly built but retaining a wealth of Portuguese character alongside a modern kitchen & bathrooms. The owners have provided plenty of crockery, cutlery & cooking utensils if you are thinking of eating in’.
‘There is a lovely swimming pool located to make the most of the views. If you are looking for a quiet holiday venue yet within easy reach of beaches & the city of Tavira then I would highly recommend this property’.
‘Should you need any help then the two owners live in the annexe & are more than happy to give advice’ - Annette Kanauros, Congleton, April 2007.
