Quinta de Sant'Ana is a working 100 acre farm that produces wine, pears, eucalyptus, apples, plums, peaches and honey. The romantic setting is also used as a venue for local weddings. The cottages are situated in the nucleus of the quinta next to the winery, main house of the owners and 17th century chapel. The shared 13m x 7m pool is a short walk from both cottages and it has a lawned area next to it where guests can sunbathe. The village of Gradil has 3 restaurants, a chemist, 2 small supermarkets, butcher, a paper shop and post office, all within easy walking distance. The situation is ideal for those that wish to do cultural visits, within 30mins drive there is the royal palace of Mafra, the monastries of Alcobaηa and Batalha, the medieval walled town of Obidos and Lisbon with it's many atttractions. The local coastal town of Ericeira is a 20 minute drive it boasts excellent fish and seafood restaurants and many sandy Atlantic beaches.

The adega house is situated next to the wine cellar it has its its own gated entrance and cobbled patio with old olive trees, where you can eat and sunbathe.
Both bedrooms have two single beds that are pushed together to form doubles. The kitchen is fully equipped with gas hob, electric oven, microwave and fridge freezer.
The bathroom has a bath with shower attachment, lavatory, bidet and basin.
The living room/dining room is spacious with an open fire place and TV with satellite channels. It has a French window that leads out onto the patio.
The house is decorated in a traditional style.

The Caseiro house is an apartment situated next to the Quinta chapel. The entrance is via a traditional outside staircase leading to a veranda, where guests can sit out and eat with a beautiful view over the farm's vineyards.
The veranda leads into the kitchen which is equipped with gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher, microwave and fridge/freezer.
The three bedrooms have twin beds that are pushed together to make doubles.
There are two bathrooms, both with baths and shower attachments.
The living room has a TV with satellite connection.

 

Notes on accommodation
Both houses have central heating that is metered and charged separately.
The Adega house is especially suitable for small children as the patio is on the same level as the house and it is closed off by a gate. Likewise for older guests who don't have to cope with stairs.

Accessibility
The Adega house is all on one level, so suited for older guests. However there are no special facilities for wheelchair users. The Caseiro house is up a flight of stairs, so not suitable for those with mobility problems.

Outside
Both houses have use of a shared 13x7m pool which is a short walk from both cottages and has a lawned area next to it where guests can sunbathe.
The Adega house has a barbeque, outdoor furniture including sun beds, table and chairs.
The Caseiro house a table and chairs on the veranda.

Coast/Beach
The Atlantic coast is a 20 minute drive. The closest coast fishing town is Ericeira, sandy beaches with fabulous surfing. Excellent sea food and fish restaurants.

Golf
Campo Real is a new 72 championship standard course and is situated 15 minutes away form the houses.
40 minutes away you have the Sintra, Estoril and Cascais courses.
30 minutes north there is Campo del Rei.

Travel
30 minutes drive from Lisbon airport. Public transport is poor in the area, so car hire is necessary if you want to get around.

Distances
The village of Gradil is 2 minute drive from the house.
Mafra with its's royal palace and convent is a 10 minute drive.
Sintra is 40 minutes. Obidos, medieval walled town, is 30 minutes.

Further details
Gradil has 3 restaurants, two general stores, butcher, chemist, post office and cash dispenser.

Booking notes
30% of total required as a deposit on booking, usually by transfer.

About the owner
We have been living in Portugal for nearly 2 decades, raising our seven boys and living our dream of making our own wine a reality. Ann grew up on the farm, where, the Fürstenberg family lived until the revolution. James, from a farming background in Dorset, spends most of his time in the vineyards and wine cellars while Ann, a trained graphic designer, dedicates herself to running the holiday cottages and organizing events, including dinners, which guests can join.
