Casa da Tranquilidade, with it’s tranquil and magnificient setting in the countryside, provides a place where you can get away from it all. It’s a delightful Villa with a secluded pool built in a traditional Algarvian style. The villa is set in three acres in the hills, overlooking a valley with breathtaking spectacular views. An abundance of exotic wild flowers, from orchids to common daisies, grow beneath the ancient olive and carob trees, which clad the hills. It is a naturalistic paradise and an artist’s delight. Its peaceful surroundings invite you for either long walks or just a peaceful rest. The villa is 2km away from the centre of Santa Catarina, which is a typical rural village of the region.

Changeover day
Changeover day is preferably a Saturday. Other arrangements can possibly be made upon request. Arrival time is from 3pm and departure time is by 10am.

Notes on accommodation
For the cooler months of the year, in addition to the fireplace, the villa has the benefit of individual marble heaters in each room as well as double glazed windows and doors. In warmer times the villa has Colonial style ceiling fans in each room which cool the air down nicely. In addition all windows have mosquito screening and can therefore be left open without being visited by unwanted guests and also the breeze coming from the hills will air the villa nicely with its summerwind. For children the surrounding 5000m2 ground of the villa offers an ideal and safe playground.
Accessibility
The property has only one floor, i.e. it has no stairs. Stairs are leading to the pool however.
Outside
The swimming pool is secluded, ie not shared, and invites for a private and relaxing holiday time. The pool gradually goes from a 10cm height at the shallow end to a maximum depth of 1.80m at the deeper end. The pool area has a BBQ and for dining by the pool, a big table with six chairs is available. For relaxing the area offers 4 sun chairs and cushions and a big sun umbrella for shade.
Coast/Beach
Superb sandy beaches are within easy reach, about 8 miles away, all have EEC blue flag for cleanliness, and pollution free water. The part of the coast by Tavira belongs to Parque Natural da Ria Formosa. It is consisting of dunes and a lagoon complex, which is known as Ilha da Tavira and runs along the coast. Tavira Island Beach can be reached by a short ferry ride. On the beach there are cafés, bars and restaurants. The average time to reach other worth visiting beaches is about 20 minutes.
Golf
The closest golf course to Casa da Tranquilidade is a 9-hole golf course in Maragota (with its own putting green and chipping area) near Moncarapacho about 7km away.
About 3km east of Tavira you find the Benamor golf course, lying opposite the new developed residential area of Conceicao which is situated in quiet surroundings neighbouring the fishing village Cabanas.
Further toward Cacela Velha you find 2 premium Golf courses, Quinta da Cima and Quinta da Ria. For those we can offer a special green fee of Euro 350 for 5 days for example. Two additional 5 Star Golf Courses are located nearby in Monte Rei and Quinta do Vale. Driving about 30km to the west you find the well established golf courses of Vilamoura and Quinta do Largo.
Within a radius of 40km there are all in all 16 golf courses to choose from.
Travel
The nearest airport is Faro and is about 30 minutes drive, ie 35km distance. Lisbon airport, a good alternative, max 3 hrs drive on a good road. Car hire is recommended to get the best out of the unspoilt Eastern Algarve. Arrangements with a reasonable priced car hire company can be made with your booking. Arrangements are then made to collect your car on arrival at Faro Airport, whatever the time of day or night. It is necessary to pay the full rental fee in Euro when you pick up the car.
Distances
Santa Catarina is very central, Tavira, Olhao and Sao Bars being each only 15 minutes drive away. Santa Catarina can also be reached by foot, being one mile from the villa.
Further details
Santa Catarina Centre is 2km and is a typical rural village of the region. It contains a mixture of tavernas, cafés, mini markets, a post office and a bank. There is also a small daily fruit and vegetable market. Santa Catarina also hosts a traditional Portuguese Sunday market once a month, where you can find everything from goats, to leather work and local culinary specialities, to T-shirts. Casa da Tranquilidade is approx. 15km from the ancient and picturesque town of Tavira in the Eastern Algarve. Tavira offers something for all. Historical churches, a castle and a museum, a colourful market, excellent shopping facilities and numerous bars and restaurants. With easy access to the A22 motorway and the EN125 all amenities can be easily reached. As well as a choice of blue flag beaches in the Parque Natural da Ria Formosa (Nature Reserve) and top quality golf courses, places of interest include local Algarve villages and small towns, such as Sto Estevao, Olhao, Estoi, Sao Bras, Cachopo, Vial Real or further a field, Lisbon or even in Spain Seville(2 hours drive away). There are ferries to and from the islands across the the Rio Formosa) boat trips on the River Guardiano. On a wet day the Forum Algarve Center in Faro offers 9 modern cinemas, shopping in tastefully decorated shops or just dining out in one of the numerous restaurants. For family outings there are two water parks within an easy drive – 'The Big One' and 'Slide and Splash' and 'Zoomarine' with a full programme of marine-life shows. Barril Beach – children love the miniature railway that shuttles back and forth across a nature reserve to the beach of Barril. There is a good self service restaurant and bar on the beach as well as attractive cafés. Beach, BBQs and dancing once a week. Facilities include tennis, windsurfing, beach volleyball, pedaloes. A few minutes to either direction you will find miles of beautiful, peaceful, dune fringed beaches.

The price is in Euro for the property for up to 4 people per week, incl. Electricity (heating), Gaz, Water and weekly change of bed linen and towels. Please bring own towels for beach and pool.
A deposit of 30% is required to secure a reservation. The balance is due 6 weeks prior to the holiday. All last details will be sent when the last payment has been made. It is possible to pay either in Euro or in GBP by cheque or bank transfer.

About the owner
We have visited the Algarve first time in 1983 and immediately fell in love with this beautiful place. in 1992, we became the chance to buy land near Sta. Catarina, county of Tavira. An English architect friend designed the Villa and English builder have then built it. Since then we have acquired a beach apartment near the golf course of Quinta da Ria and another apartment in the historic center of Tavira. We keep improving our objects every year, trying to take in the feed-backs made by tenants. We are very fortunate to have found integer and responsible management for our objects, since life has brought us to Switzerland to work. We are spending regular holidays with our dog in the Villa or apartment and can so take care of all objects as much as possible ourselves.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
When seeing the property for the first time we simply enjoyed the tranquil location. It is not too far away from town and life in general. So this place has just been perfect and still is. It kept its tranquility all these years without being in solitude and even golf courses are nearby (7km) and the beaches to choose from are in very easy reach. The apartment Rio in the historic center of Tavira offers some most enjoyable times whenever we are there, not having to use a car as all amenities are around the apartment. The ferry to the beach is in 5 minutes walking distance only. The apartment at the beach was a dream come true. We always wanted something close to the sea where we can get up in the morning and walk through the dunes with the dog, enjoying the sea breeze and horizon.
Unique benefits of the property
We just love to take long walks either in the smooth hills of Santa Catarina and its surroundings or enjoy the beach nearby. Also spending time in our beach apartment in Praia Lota and enjoying walks in the sunset of the nearly deserted beaches are pure luxury. It is very calm and relaxing. The villa surely is a place to calm down in the hectic of busy life at work and living in a town. Our dog just loves the Algarve. The outdoor life it offers we enjoy due the mild weather at all times of the year. When staying at the Villa we very often choose not to drive away much, as it is so nice to spend the day at the pool and to simply relax. When staying in Tavira we enjoy to simply sit and relax in a cafe near by watching life around us and taking walks around the picturesque town.
