Guia is an attractive Algarve village about 5km from magnificent beaches and a host of other attractions but away from the tourist hotspots. A taste of the real Portugal. Stay in our well appointed low rise 2 bedroom apartment. You will enjoy modern air conditioned / heated accommodation, a communal pool and gardens and a huge roof terrace with lots of sun and splendid views. On the first floor at one end of the Jardim Paraiso building our apartment enjoys: 2 air conditioned bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (1 with spa bath & 1 with fitted shower), a modern well equipped kitchen, satellite TV, living/dining room, front terrace (north) with dining furniture, rear terrace (south) with dining furniture and secure underground parking. Jardim Pariaso is a small complex situated on the southern edge of the village its elevated location giving panoramic views over Guia and the surrounding countryside. Within easy walking distance are shops, banks, restaurants and the other village amenities.

Changeover day
Changeovers are usually on Saturday or Thursday but there can be some flexibility (not Sunday) particularly off season. The apartment is available for new arrivals by 4pm. On departure day you are asked to leave by 10am. Again we can often be flexible.

Notes on accommodation
A welcome pack (tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread, butter, jam, wine etc.) can be arranged upon request. Cots and high chairs can also be made available for a small extra charge.
In case there are any problems our well respected and helfull managing agents offices are just 2 minutes walk away in the village - you will be provided with their contact details including a 24 hour emergency number. Our agents administer the cleaning and handovers and can also assist with car hire. It is through them that we can offer airport transfers with a local company (who know our apartment) for just 39 Euros per trip.
Additional equipment designed to make your stay more comfortable includes portable electric radiators, electric fans and a hairdryer. There are also built in mosqueto blinds on all windows. A safe has now been fitted for guests use.
Smoking is permitted although we ask guests to use the ashtrays provided on the balconies. There is a good mobile phone service throughout the area.
Accessibility
Our apartment is up 1 flight of stairs from ground level and 2 flights from the underground car park. 1 flight up is the huge sunny roof terrace. Unfortunately there is no wheelchair access.
Outside
The large shared swimming pool (with showers) lies in spacious well maintained gardens which act as a natural suntrap. There is lots of room for sunbathing and relaxation and a substantial well equipped barbecue area with power and washing up facilities.
Our apartment has private terraces to the front and rear (both with outdoor furniture) and easy access to the huge roof terrace which although shared with immediate neighbours is often deserted. Four top of the range sun loungers are provided. In addition there are four chairs and a table with parasol to enable you to enjoy this area. From the roof terrace you have extensive panoramic views over both the village and the surrounding countryside with the sea in the distance. This is a great place to relax.
Coast/Beach
Some of the best beaches that the Algarve has to offer are within 10 mins drive down minor roads. As well as the lengthy Praia de Gale (stretching westwards towards Armacao de Pera) with its sports facilities snack bar and restaurants there are many secluded sandy coves with sculptured sandstone cliffs and azure sea. The choice and variety is extensive. For those who like more hustle and bustle Albufeira is less than 15 mins away with its famous marina, historic old town and even more beaches!
Golf
Over 20 superb golf courses lie within easy driving distance of Guia. The nearby N125 and A22 motorway ensure that they can be reached quickly and easily. Our apartment is ideal for small golfing parties who can park their cars and clubs securely in our underground car parking spaces whilst enjoying all the 19th hole facilities within the nearby village. Keen golfers come back to the Algarve time after time to enjoy some of the best courses in the world. Travel
To fully enjoy you holiday in Guia car hire is recommended. Rates on the Algarve are very competative and there are numerous reputable car hire companies with facilities at Faro airport - less than an hour away. Alternatively we can offer locally arranged private transfers for 39 Euros per party. Guia is easy to find and lies just south of the toll free A22 motorway. The magnificent beaches are less than 10 mins drive away and facilities like Zoomarine and Algarve Shopping are even nearer.
Distances
Given the proximity of the motorway and the quality of the road system most of the western and Central Algarve is less than an hour away. Nearby you will find the superb coastal facilities and beaches. Albufeira is just down the road as is the nearest of the many golf courses. Historical Silves, the hills of Monchique and places of interest like Faro and Vilamoura are within easy reach. Algarve Shopping, the Zoomarine Park and well known water parks are nearby. There is plenty to do!
Further details
Famous for its range of authentic restaurants, all the facilities in the village of Guia are within easy walking distance. With its 27 restaurants (at the last count!) and various bars Guia is a great place in which to wine and dine. Nearby you will find the Algarve home of Sir Cliff Richard and his famous vineyard. In the village is a marvelous supermarket, newsagents (with UK press) a butchers, bakers, bottle shop, post office, chemists, hairdressers, internet cafe and snack bars. There ia a small local market, banks with cash machines and lots more. The medical centre is within 50 yards. Although the village is truly Portuguese all are made welcome by truly friendly and helpful locals. All the facilities are nearby when needed and in the meantime you can simply relax and soak up the sun.
Guia is thought to have existed since Roman times. Its Arab name was Alfontes. However, it is really the later Christian links are the strongest. The site of the Chapel of Nossa Srª da Guia ia a place where the Virgin Mary is thought, by local custom to have appeared. This was great draw for Pilgrims and gave rise to the Guia Fair held annually from 7th to 9th October.
The 17th century village church is an interesting building with a simple carved alter, a selection of 17th and 18th century statues and some famous azulejo tile pictures. There are numerous other fine buildings, places of interest and historical sites within easy reach.
Beyond the village are tiny hamlets nestling in green countryside, vineyards and citrus groves. The coast lies to the south and inland there is an interesting hinterland with more villages and hamlets to explore. Well know centres like Lagos, Portimao, Silves (with its Moorish Castle), Albufeira, Faro and Vilamoura can all be reached easily. In the distance you can see the mountains of Monchique with its famous spa. In fact the best that the Algarve has to offer is all less than an hour away.

About the owner
We visit Guia as often as possible and always like to ensure that everything at the apartment is in tip top condition. Having a busy life in the UK means that we really appreciate the change of culture and climate. In my professional life I have to pay attention to detail. Hopefully that is reflected in the way that we look after our rental clients. It is certainly our objective and hopefully one of the reasons why we see some guests returning year after year.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
I wanted a property in the central Algarve with easy access to the coast and lots of facilities within walking distance. I nevertheless wanted to be away from the busy tourist centres and get a taste of the real Algarve. The Portuguese are a relaxed and friendly people and everything that they have to offer is less than 3 hours away from most of the UK - perfect.
Unique benefits of the property
Guia is a great place to stay and I have made many friends in the village. Lots of facilities all within walking distance. As a busy professional I like some quality time to relax in the sun and the Algarve is perfect for that. There is also lots to do and see to suit all tastes and age groups.
