Notes on accommodation
A complimentary food pack is provided on arrival.
Both cottages offer fully modernised facilities.
The refrigerators have freezer compartments.

Outside
The cottages adjoin one another and each has its own attractive patio complete with barbecue area, garden furniture and views over the surrounding olive groves and Caia reservoir.

Contenda has a swimming pool, set in gardens and available to guests throughout the day. River and lake bathing is also available at various places throughout the São Mamede Natural Parque and on the Guardiana River south of Elvas which, incidentally, are good picnicing areas particularly on summer evenings.

Travel
Lisbon airport is 2 hours drive. Charter flights to Faro are less expensive but the drive from the Algarve will take twice as long.
Car hire is available at airports (best to book fly-drive packages as these offer better value for money). Advice on car hire will be provided on request.

Distances
Alternative travel: Ferry from the UK to Northern Spain, then drive via Madrid or Salamanca and Cáceres through to Badajos and Elvas or ferry to L'Havre then drive via Bordeaux and either of the last 2 options. (Please ask for more information).

Further details
Life in Portugal continues much as it has for centuries. Local agricultural fairs and markets continue to feature strongly in the everyday life of the country folk throughout the summer months and provide visitors with an excellent source of unusual and simple gifts to take home. There are many interesting places to visit and things to do although the package holiday industry has yet to descend on this part of the Alentejo.

The English owners of Contenda are no strangers to Portugal having moved there from Spain in the late 1960s. Jenny is at the house to welcome you when you arrive, on hand to sort out any problems you may have and give you advice on the many interesting places to visit in the area. From time to time she also organises excursions for which a modest charge is made. A complimentary food pack is provided on arrival. All fresh towels and bed linen are provided on a weekly basis.
