Praia D'El Rey has been voted by Golf World as one of the best (13th) golf courses in Continental Europe and is the IAGTO European Golf Resort for 2007. Less than five minutes walk away is the luxurious club house and restaurant/bar. Due to its seaside location, air conditioning is not necessary even in the hottest months. Full gas central heating is provided for chillier evenings. The apartment has the use of a communal pool, sun deck and barbeque area and is also located close to a stunning, unspoiled beach which stretches for several miles.

Changeover day
Any day but Sunday, depending on availability. Check-in time is 3:00pm but this can be brought forward if there are no departing guests. Check-out time is 10:00am but this can be extended by prior arrangement unless new guests are due to arrive.

Outside
There are well maintained communal gardens and a 20m swimming pool (and small children's pool) available only for the 36 apartments in this development, a communal barbecue area. There are outside chairs and tables for both spacious balconies. A drink on the balcony in the evening sun looking out over to the golf course and the Atlantic is highly recommended!
Coast/Beach
You can walk to the fabulous beach in less than 10 minutes. The beach is very uncrowded, even in high season, as the resort is away from the main tourist area. However, if you want to surf or bodyboard, Baleal (15 minutes drive) or Peniche are world renowned. In Summer, a drive to the nearby Obidos Lagoon provides safe, warm water, ideal for paddling with small children, and many watersports.
Golf
The golf course at Praia D'El Rey (PDR) is nothing short of stunning in terms of the layout, the views and its condition. Golf can be booked direct with the PDR Pro Shop or (more reasonably) using internet-based booking services which the owner can recommend. As PDR has been selected by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) as European Golf Resort of the Year for 2007, its reputation has been further enhanced, having already been identified by Golf World magazine as the leading Portuguese course in its World Best Places To Play and 13th Best Course in Continental Europe. There are two excellent British golf professionals available for lessons and the practice facilities are outstanding with short and long game practice areas as well as several putting greens. Clubs, trolleys and buggies are available for rent at the pro shop in the clubhouse. The pro shop may ask for handicap certificates.
Travel
Nearest airport is Lisbon International which is less than 100 km away and takes just an hour by car. All but the the last 8km is on fast motorway. Oporto airport is less than 3 hours away.
A car is strongly recommended.

Further details
The resort has 7 all weather tennis courts and separate club house. Children's activity playground. Beach for sunbathing or long walks. The Marriott Hotel (5 star) with restaurants, spas and fitness rooms is located less than 1km away (3 minutes drive or a 15 minute walk)
Although the resort is famous for its golf, less than a third of the residents/owners of properties are golfers. This reflects the wide range of other activities available in the area and the natural beauty of the resort and the surrounding countryside. You can visit the bird and wildlife sanctuary on the Berlengas Islands, which can be reached by boat from nearby Peniche during the summer months. Obidos hosts a Festival of Chocolate every November and there is a summer season of outdoor concerts held in the castle.
As well as a covenience shop at the resort, there is a small supermarket in the village of Serra D'El Rei (less than 10 minutes away) and several large supermarkets in Peniche Obidos, and Caldas da Rainha, Caldas also has a colourful daily market for fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers, cheese, olives and other local produce. Caldas also boasts many shops to suit any pocket. In the 6 years that we have been coming to the area we have seen the number and quality of restaurants steadily increase. Bon viveurs will not be disappointed! There is also an abundance of very inexpensive local style restaurants. We will be happy to share recommendations.
There is a cash machine at the clubhouse at the resort (5 minutes walk) and there are banks in all the nearby towns.
Praia D’El Rey is situated in the Estremadura region on Portugal’s Atlantic West Coast. Obidos, a charming 14th century walled town, is a World Heritage site just a few minutes drive away. The West Coast region is very unspoilt and PDR is an ideal location for touring its picturesque villages, small fishing ports and ancient vineyards whilst being within striking distance of the country's beautiful and historic capital, Lisbon.
Booking notes
Payment can be made in Euros or UK Pounds. 10% discount from daily rate is available for bookings of 2 weeks or more. A 25% deposit is required on booking and the balance is payable 8 weeks prior to departure. A refundable damage deposit of £100 or 150 Euros is also required and needs to be added to final payment. This amount is refundable within 2 weeks of return less the reasonable cost of any breakages or damage done (not including reasonable wear and tear).
