Coimbra: just over one & half hour's drive.
Porto airport: two and a half hours' drive.

Further details
Local activities include river bathing, canoeing, hiking trails, fishing, horse riding. In the near by town of Gois there is a holistic centre where you can book many different alternative therapies, Shiatsu massage, Reflexology, Reiki, Breuss massage, to name a few.
Coimbra is the home to one of the world's oldest universities, sitting on the hill top. Well worth a visit is the Biblioteca Joanina, the early 18th century library with its gilt wood rooms lined with 300,000 books. Bucaco National Forest is an hour away, with its exotic trees creating shady walks where there are hermits' grottoes to be found. The amazing Palace Hotel is in the centre where you can have a good meal overlooking the gardens and forest. There are more interesting and beautiful places to visit, details of which can be found in the cottage. I recommend that you bring an up-to-date guide book. Lousa is a good place to shop locally: Where there are three supermarkets.
Just outside Lousa there are the ruins of a castle, where there are many interesting walks around the hills. Also there is a natural swimming pool near the O Burgo restaurant where you can have a well-cooked meal of local produce. Coimbra, of course, is the best place to shop with its three large shopping centres. Gois (30 mins), has a 24-hour health centre, chemist, post office, bank, butcher and two mini supermarkets. Arganil (50 mins) is larger with an Intermarche and Lidl, etc. Colmeal (7 mins) has two bars, one with a shop where you can buy almost everything for your everyday needs. Cabreira, in the other direction (10-15 mins on your way to Gois), has the nearest restaurant. For guests who may be interested in buying property out here I can put you in touch with Portuguese translators, solicitors etc.
