Quinta Bavaria is a beautiful holiday home for families or couples who want to relax and get away from it all in tranquil surroundings. Five x 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, all with air-conditioned bedrooms, overlook tropical, landscaped gardens with a heated pool (essential, we believe, even in the summer months). One apartment is now occupied until Nov 12 but 4 are still available together or separately and suit individual bookings or larger family groups, offering the space, privacy and convenience of separate accommodation and patios whilst sharing the beautiful gardens and pool. Explore the grounds, pick fruit from the orchard or simply relax by the heated pool. Evenings can be spent dining by moonlight on your patio or at the poolside picnic area. Surrounded by quiet countryside, Quinta Bavaria is still only a five minute drive from the long stretch of golden sand at Meia Praia beach and from the shops, restaurants and nightlife in the busy picturesque marina town of Lagos.

Notes on prices
Prices are in Pounds Sterling per apartment per week up to the number of people indicated. There is a 10% surcharge for 5 person occupancy in Cacto or Novo, or for 3 people in Boa Vista or Colina.
A 25% deposit is payable on booking, with the balance due a minimum of 8 weeks before departure.
Check-in time is 1500, check-out 1000.
Changeover day
Saturdays during July and August, optional for the rest of the year.
Notes on accommodation
Each apartment is individually designed and furnished to a high standard, each offering villa-style space and comfort with its own terrace or balcony overlooking the gardens.
Towels and linen are provided, although guests should bring their own beach/pool towels.
There is a weekly maid service during stays of more than 1 week.
A complimentary welcome pack of groceries is provided - enjoy a light snack and relax by the pool before having to shop.
A cot, highchair and baby car seat are all available free of charge.
Golf clubs and tennis rackets are available for hire.
All guests have free access to a laundry room with washing
machine and tumble dryer. Hair dryers are not supplied.
Sorry, strictly no pets and no smoking inside.
The pool is closed in hours of darkness.
For the comfort of all guests we ask that you do not play music outside the apartments, so please bring headphones.
Outside
The property itself is surrounded by 2.5 acres of beautifully tended mature gardens with a large area of lawn towards which all the apartments face. The perimiter is well fenced and hedged and entry is via electric gates with security code. There is plenty of parking.
Beyond a rockery is the orchard which has oranges, lemons, grapefruit, walnuts, pomegranate, plums and more. These are offered complimentary to all guests, as are home grown vegetables, when in season.
The pool is heated from 1 April to 31 October but can be requested at other times. It measures 10m x 5m and is surrounded by both terraced and grassed sunbathing areas with sun umbrellas, chairs and comfortable loungers. It is walled and fenced off from the apartments and garden making it toddler and child-friendly. There is also a shaded picnic area next to the pool which is ideal for outdoor dining or group BBQs.
Coast/Beach
Meia Praia beach is about 3km away and can be reached on foot in about 45 minutes, ideal for walkers (but not when laden with beach gear, when a car is advised). Access is via the dunes at the Alvor Estuary, which is renowned for its kite surfing. It is an unspoilt 5km stretch of sand backed by dunes which is beautiful at any time of the year. It has a selection of beach bars accessed by boardwalks, each offering an excellent selection of local dishes served in a beautiful setting.
Golf
The newly designed 27 hole Palmares golf course is 5 minutes away, Boa Vista is within a 10 minute drive. There are at least 5 more within half an hour.
Special interest holidays
When rented as a whole, the property lends itself to large groups and special occasion get-togethers.
Travel
Faro airport is 75km away and can be reached in 45 minutes. Lisbon airport is approximately 300km or 3 hours by car. Car hire is recommended for the duration of any stay, although taxis to and from Lagos are reasonably priced and reliable. We can organise car hire at competitive rates through a local company.
Distances
Odiáxere, our friendly local village, is 1km or a 20 minute walk. It offers several local restaurants and bars, an international restaurant, a daily fish and vegetable market, bakery, chemist, post office, two mini-markets and a monthly open-air market and cattle market.
The picturesque town of Lagos is 5km away, less than 10 minutes by car. Supermarkets, shops, bars, restaurants, and nightlife can all be found within the ancient city walls in an unspoilt, harbourside setting.
Further details
The property is reached from the main road by a tarmac country lane which then continues towards the nearest stretch of Meia Praia beach. Inside the gates, the Quinta is approached by a long gravel driveway lined with trees.
Quinta Bavaria has been praised by birdwatchers for the number of species seen whilst simply sitting on the patio. The surrounding area provides habitat to an abundance of bird and wildlife and is perfect for walkers, ramblers and birdwatchers alike.
We live in an adjacent villa within the grounds and we lovingly maintain the property to a high standard. We are on hand to give advice, local information, carry out repairs when necessary and to make sure that you have everything you need to make your stay as relaxing and comfortable as possible. But if you don't need us, you won't see much of us after we have welcomed you to your holiday home.

Booking notes
A 25% deposit is required to secure a booking with the balance due 8 weeks prior to arrival. There is a 10% surcharge for use of a sofa bed. Utility costs in winter are not included. There is a charge for heating the pool between 1 November and 31 March.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We have lived at this property since 2000, originally coming to Portugal on contract with the British Embassy in Lisbon. We are on hand to help with any problems which may crop up during your stay (Colin can fix just about anything) but our accommodation is slightly separate to the apartments and we will not be part of your holiday. We love this area. Guests often come here having stayed in some of the busier resorts of Carvoeiro or Albufeira and are always delighted with this quieter end of the Algarve. Lagos is a beautiful, historic town offering everything you could possibly need for an exciting holiday while Quinta Bavaria provides a superb countryside environment in which to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. We have never looked back since moving here.
