One of the Western Algarve's most beautifully located private villas, the quinta is set on 4.5 acres with park-like, mature gardens. The property affords a spectacularly attractive view across the fields towards the ocean. A beautiful pool area surrounds a salt water infinity pool. The garden is fenced and hedged and very private. Many almond trees, olive trees, flowering trees and some enormous cacti. Nearby village with regionally famous bakery, excellent butcher and small daily market, provides everything needed for daily life. The golden beaches of Meia Praia, the old town of Lagos and two famous golf courses are all within 10 minutes. This artist's residence is rustic around the edges, with a soft, lived-in feel. The overall atmosphere is artistic and romantic, with a strong sense of privacy and connection with nature.

Notes on accommodation
The villa is set on the Southern flank of a low elongated hill, which it shares with only one other villa, not in view, and half a dozen farmhouses along its foot. Almond trees, fig trees, and flowering shrub all around. The overall atmosphere is very peaceful. The hill, a protected area, is covered in short blue iris in early spring. There are foxes, partridges, hedgehogs, toads, and many kinds of birds nestling in the many cypresses and palms.
Outside
Beautifully designed pool area with natural stone terraces and poolhouse with great rooftop terrace. Full privacy. Pool has infinity design, salt water treatment, requiring no chlorine - great for children, adults love it too! Mature garden with some spectacular palms, cactuses, agaves and yuccas. Ample lawns, hammock slung between large olive trees. Classic cypress-lined driveway. Treehouse hidden in carob tree. Beautiful countryside all around. Teak outdoor furniture. BBQ.
Coast/Beach
Nearest beach is Meia Praia, 3 miles of golden sand, 10 mins away by car. There are several pretty little restaurants right on the beach. The popular Praia da Batata and Porto de Mos beaches are within 15 mins. There are many other great beaches within 30 mins, some of them very quiet and spectacular, including the West coast beaches, great for surfing and surf watching.
Golf
Within 10 minutes from two of Portugal's finest golf courses: Palmares, 27 holes, entirely made over in 2010, in view from the house, and the Henry Cotton designed Penina Championship Course, 18 holes, home of the Portugal Open. Owners also recommend the new and spectacularly beautiful Morgado de Reguengos golf course (at 20 mins) with its 2450 acres, lake with flamingoes, peace and quiet and views forever. Also nearby are the new Boavista course with great ocean views, and the Parque da Floresta course at 20 min. There are several other courses all within 20 min., including Alto at Alvor, Gramacho, and the new Amendoeira.

Owner profile
About the owner
Ineke is a Yoga teacher, occasionally using the quinta for Yoga group work. (Private or group sessions may be arranged, if you feel like bringing some body work and deep relaxation into your holiday.) Peter is an author, international consultant and personal coach. The quinta was our family home for more than ten years, where we raised our two sons, two dogs and two cats. When the boys had left we felt it was time for a change. We now live on an another delightful spot nearby and shall gladly help you find your way around. When we have no guests we often return to the quinta to listen to the birds, water the garden or just sit and enjoy. We have always felt the villa to be a very pleasant, happy place. Going by their feedback, all the guests we have had share this feeling.
Year purchased: 1997
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We have travelled on all continents and seen a lot of wonderful places. But when we then came to the green Western Algarve in 1997 we really fell in love. For one because it offers one of the best climates in the world. Lots of sun, but not as exhaustingly hot in the tropics. Dry mostly, but when it rains it pours, bringing nature alive spectacularly. A great variety of flowering trees and shrubs do well here, in what the Moors called Al Garb, 'the garden': all Mediterranean flora, plus the temperate and subtropical. The unspoilt nature, close to great beaches is unique in Europe. Most importantly, the people are honest, trusting, modest, loyal and unpretentious, qualities not found in many lands. We hope that some of these qualities have rubbed off on us.
Unique benefits of the property
The quinta stands out from the average villa in its price range by the beautiful natural hill side setting. Very private, yet with the ocean and a nearby village in the valley below always in view. Away from it all, but right next to it. A little above it actually. Guests tend to appreciate the easy going feel of the house, with its unpolished stone floors (as found in old Portuguese castles and monasteries), rounded shapes and rustic rendering. No sharp edges anywhere, nothing overly delicate. But all the art works are real (paintings, photography, lithographs, etc.) many of them antiques. No posters, no factory art. There are many books (including scores of coffee table books), on a wide range of subjects. We strongly encourage guests to explore the glorious hillside behind the house.
