How to get there
It is recommended that you hire a car.
Faro Airport is about 40 minutes away by car or an hour by train. Although you may choose to take advantage of some really cheap flights into Seville or Jerez.
Seville is about 90 minutes drive and definitely wirth the trip, as is Lisbon which is about a 2/3 hour drive.
This part of Portugal still maintains its Portuguese feel. You will be able to experience this by travelling to the small towns nearby. A trip to Ayamonte in Spain is recommended.
Cacela is the nearest town at about 8 km.
Cabanas is about 15 km, Tavira is about 20 km, Monte Gordo about 12 km, Vila Real San Antonio is about 15 km.
Spain is about 12 km and should you be staying between Sept and May would have the choice of watching a La Liga game at Real Betis, Seville or Huelva.
All the nearby towns and resorts have a great selection of bars and restaurants, the busiest resort being Monte Gordo that also has live entertainment at the Casino.
There are plenty of Supermarkets and local markets in the area. The fish and vegetable Market at Tavira is not to be missed. Tavira also has a good selection of fashion shops and lovely river side bars / cafes / restaurants where during summer evenings you can relax while watching traditional Algarvian entertainment.
At nearby Castro Marim you have the choice of visiting 2 castles.
Villa Real is on the border with Spain where you can take a short ferry ride to Ayamonte. The town is a typically Portuguese and many a bargain is to be had in the cobbled shopping prestinct especially on market day.
Monte Gordo gets busy in the summer months and is a good place for spending an afternoon / evening. Here you will be able to watch Sky Sports in one of the bars. Apart from the traditional cuisine there are also Chinese and Indian restaurants, but please try 'O Tapas' that is near the 1st car park you see on entering the town.
Manta Rota has a holiday complex open to the public with pools / tennis courts and other sporting activities.
Not to missed is the charming hamlet of Cacela Vehla.
Take the kids to the beach and watch thousands of crabs appear / dissappear as you walk across the sand. During the evening experience the friendly atmosphere created by the locals and tourists relaxing / drinking and eating in the village square, in the backdrop of the old church.
If you need to be collected by car or mini bus from the airport this can be arranged at a charge of about 60 - 80 euros each way (depending on numbers).
This service is also available in the evenings should you wish to visit one of the local towns and would prefer not to drive yourselves.

We have stayed all over the Algarve and Silver Coast - this was my favourite place. Excellent, thanks a lot.

About the Owner
The villa is owned by 4 friends who having spent a holiday in the area decided to have the villa built in 2006. 2 of the owners, Kevin and Janice live and work in the UK, the other owners Neil and Sally retired and moved to live in Portugal in 2010.
Year property purchased: 2006
Why this location?
We searched the area around Vila Nova De cacela for 3 years for a suitable piece of land and when this plot came up had to move fast to secure it. The location of the villa is ideal if you want a relaxing holiday but are only a short distance away from beaches, golf courses, and excellent restaurants.
What are the unique benefits of the property?
Our villa is in an area still lived in by local Portuguese families. During the summer months there is a mixed community with most of the foreign owned villas in the surrounding area's having been rented out to holiday makers. Outside of the high season the area is almost exclusively inhabited by Portuguese. The property has excellent raod access to the major Algarvian towns but maintains its tranquil setting and feeling throughout the year - except when the wind blows !
