Adega Velha and Casa Limão are adjacent properties to be rented together or Adega Velha on its own. Set in two hectares of vineyards, lake and gardens and joined by a beautiful covered terrace. There is a magnificent pool with panoramic views leading to a gorgeous covered bar with fridge, plenty of seating and hammocks, overlooking the vineyards. Adega Velha was a winery and a distillery for medronho, the local firewater. It offers quality accommodation without losing the rural character of vaulted bamboo ceilings, terracotta floors and tall Algarvian chimneys. The English owners have replanted the vineyard, bringing it back to life. The south and west coasts are each under one hours drive away.

Adega Velha, the 'Old Winery', is a traditional farmhouse sleeping up to 5 people in 3 bedrooms. Very well equipped and full of character with terracotta floors and bamboo ceilings. Bedroom 1 with king sized bed and en-suite bathroom, Bedroom 2 with twin beds and Bedroom 3 with single bed. Optional cot. Bathroom 2, Luxury Kitchen, Dining Hall and comfortable Sitting Room. Notes on accommodation
Fans are provided. Two woodburning stoves in Adega Velha. There are a variety of night storage heaters, heatwafers and electric radiators throughout. There is a cot and high chair. The pool area can be gated off from toddlers.
Accessibility
Easily reached with tarmac roads all the way and a tarmac drive right to the front door.
Both properties are on one level thoughout along with the pool. Minimum door widths are 25 inches. The bar is reached by 5 steps.
Outside
Around the swimming pool are dining table and chairs under a covered terrace, pool recliners, built in BBQ and a swinging sofa. The pool (12 x 5.5m) is lit at night and warm enough to use from end April to mid October. The bar has four comfortable, quality wicker style chairs and matching table and 2 hammocks plus further table and chairs and cushioned seating around a beach style bar with fridge. Below the bar is quiet garden with citrus trees and cactus grove. Casa Limão has a covered breakfast terrace with table and chairs. At the side is a sunbathing area with table, chairs and parasol. A large reservoir stocked with Koi carp can be seen below. There is an old Algarvean bread oven that can be used for cooking pizzas. The garage has space for one car and there is further covered parking for another. Guests are invited to the Adega in the vineyard for sample wine tastings.
Coast/Beach
Adega Velha is handy for both the bustling south coast and unspoilt surfing beaches of the west coast. The nearest south coast resort is Albufeira (40mins drive) and, on the west coast, Zambujeira do Mar – a small ‘Portuguese’ resort, is one hours drive. There is an abundance of beautiful, sandy beaches on both coasts.
Travel
Faro airport is approximately 50 minutes drive. Hiring a car is essential.
Distances
The local village, São Marcos da Serra is 5kms away and the beautiful old Moorish castle town of Silves is 35 mins drive over a national park with stunning mountain views. The spa town of Monchique, a high point in the Algarve, is 25mins drive through breathtaking scenery. Santa Clara and it's beautiful reservoir is 30 minutes drive through the Alentejo province.
Further details
In the summer months many find the best activity is cooling off in the pool – or some of Europe's best surfing beaches are a day trip to the West coast. Try out our mountain bikes and if you like hill walking there are many footpaths to discover in the surrounding area. There are local reservoirs for fishing bass and a hang gliding site nearby in the foothills of the Monchique Serras. Guests are invited to taste the wine produced at Adega Velha. A tasting of medronho, the Algarvian spirit that warms your heart, can be provided by a local producer. We have information on restaurants, banks and shopping to hand and the visitors book is full of recommendations.
