Originally a Cortisa (Cork Farm), the Casa and its outbuildings and grounds have long been retired from these duties. Today, the property is owned and operated by British couple, Jenny Flitton and her son Tom Parrott who have transformed the property providing attractive one and two bedroom individual self-catering cottages for adults only. A feature of this property is the landscaped gardens with large Swimming Pool and purpose built Pagoda to provide a respite from the midday sun. Over 30 restaurants are within 4 kilometres of the property and well stocked supermarkets are also close by. Centrally situated for touring the unspoilt Algarve and coast. Attractive town 2km away.

Choice of standard one double bedroom cottage for two people or larger superior cottage with either double bed or twin beds. Lounge with British satellite TV. Bathroom with bath and/or shower. Kitchen/diner, open plan to lounge, equipped with 4 burner electric hob, microwave, full size fridge, toaster and electric kettle plus hairdryer in the bedrooms. Duvets when required. Fans supplied in summer and heating in winter at no extra cost.

The "Old Barn" with One Shower bathroom and one double bedded room and one twin bedded room. Lounge with British Satellite TV. Kitchen/diner equipped with 4 burner electric hob, microwave, full size fridge, toaster and electric kettle, plus hairdyer in the Bedroom. Duvets when required. Air-conditioning supplied and heating in winter at no extra cost.

 

Notes on accommodation
The cottages are in a courtyard setting and are decorated in the traditional Algarvean style. Fans/Air conditioning supplied. Heating, if required, is included from November to April. A public pay phone on site is available for guest use. British Satellite Television is also available. Washing machine available for small charge. Sorry, no pets. Accommodation is not suitable for children.

Outside
An impressive feature of the property is the large 12 x 7 metre swimming pool and attractive gardens. Filled with exotic plants, there is a mass of colour from the many varieties of trees and shrubs. At various times of the year, there are the heady scents of orange, lemon, almond and "Angels Trumpets" for you to enjoy. Additionally, the mature palms around the pool afford you welcome shelter from the mid-day sun, which can give you a healthy tan even in the winter months. Pool towels and mattresses for the sunbeds are supplied and will be found in your cottage.

To round off the day, why not enjoy a "sundowner" (or two) on the pool terrace, complete with a BBQ and purpose built Pagoda and watch one of the Algarve's famed sunsets.

Coast/Beach
The nearest beaches are a 20 minute drive and the comprehensive knowledge of the owners for the best ones is always freely given.

Golf
There are a number of Golf courses within easy reach including Benamor, Olhao, Quinta da Ria and Quinta da Cima. Additionally, the Tournament Courses at Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura are also only a 20 minute drive. Discount Golf can be booked via the owners.

Travel
The nearest Airport is Faro and is less than 20 minutes away. Car hire is a highly recommended addition to your holiday and we can make the appropriate arrangements for you. Pick up and return to the Aiport for a nominal charge if required. Transport into town for those that want to drink and not drive in the evenings.

Distances
Sao Bras de Alportel is 2 kilometres away and features an interesting museum and several supermarkets, bars and restaurants. There are spectacular views from the surrounding hills which are perfect for exploring by car or on foot.

Ideal birdwatching territory and ample opportunity for mountain biking. For walkers we offer self guided routes in hill, country and coastal regions. Booking notes
These rates are for private bookings and apply to a cottage booking only. Flights and car hire are not included and are the responsibility of the person making the booking. We can however make these necessary arrangements for you at the costs incurred. All bookings made will be only be confirmed after a deposit of £100 is received. It is our policy to ask for the balance to be paid no later than one month prior to arrival. The property operates an Adults Only policy.

About the owner
Growing up in Cornwall I came to appreciate the tranquility and beauty of the countryside. Its increasing popularity, however, meant it lost something of its aura and I jumped at the chance to move to Portugal when the opportunity arose to take on the challenge of developing a business with my mum Jenny. Having spent many holidays in the Sao Bras area, the prospect of making Casa Ferrobo a first-choice destination for discerning visitors was the ideal mix of work and pleasure!

Why the owner chose a home in this location
The rural Algarve is a far cry from the crowded coastal strip and harks back to the bucolic Cornwall of yesteryear - but with far better weather! Village life revolves around the seasons, the land and community spirit hard to match, whilst nearby Sao Bras de Alportel oozes the charm of an old Portuguese town. With Faro airport only 17 kms away, our lovingly converted old cork-oak farm in the limestone hills of the Barrocal is perfectly situated for exploring mountains, beaches and picturesque historic towns, whilst the rugged Atlantic coast, the wildlife-rich Alentejo and the Spanish Province of Heulva are an easy day trip.

Unique benefits of the property
With the beautiful hills of the Serra da Caldeirão rising beyond the pool and terrace and the endless beaches of the Ria Formosa Nautural Park just 25 minutes drive away, Casa Ferrobo is the ideal location for an active or relaxing break as anyone could want. Being off the tourist radar, local prices are as attractive as the landscape and our nearby restaurants and bars are hard to beat. Being keen ramblers mum and I have developed a wide selection of self-guided walks deep into the wildflower-drenched countryside, exploring the captivating landscapes and discovering the rich heritage of this endlessly fascinating rural Arcadia.
