Casa Ginjeira is in the magical setting of the unspoilt terraces of Monchique Mountain, with a view over the lower foothills to the coast beyond. All the rooms face south and open on to a deep verandah. The large garden has many trees offering shady places to lie or sit - Jacarandas, Palms and Olive trees. The large pool has a table and benches shaded by olive trees beside it. Nightingales are numerous in the spring, and other birds such as the Hoopoe, Azure-winged Magpie and Golden Orioles can also be seen. Nearby, up the track to the main road, is the best restaurant serving piri-piri chicken in the area, and the market town of Monchique is just 4km away, where you can buy anything you may need.

Prices are for the property per week in UK pounds.
A charge is made for extra days pro rata. Cost of electricity, gas for cooking and logs is included in rental, but cost for pool heating and central heating is charged extra according to oil used shown on the gauge. The pool takes a week to heat, so you will be charged for this if there has not been anyone else before you.

Weekdays preferred. Weekends negotiable.

Notes on accommodation
Casa Ginjeira is a very comfortable house attractively furnished by the artist owners who have cherished it for 36 years. There is a telephone , digital English TV, video, CD/cassette player, and many books on the shelves in the drawing room. The house has central heating and a wood burning stove, and is available out of season. There is a spare child's cot. Sorry, no pets allowed.

Outside
Terraces below, above and beside the house. The large pool (10m x 5m), with a fantastic view to the sea, is above the house and has a terraced area with sunbeds and eating area under olive trees. There is a cottage on the same level with a ping pong table. There are also four bicycles for client's use. Below the house, steps lead down to the garden from the veranda to a shaded area with jacaranda trees and a palm tree. There is a table on the veranda enabling alfresco dining. Further paths lead down to an orange grove below.
Coast/Beach
South coast is about 0.5 hours away (27km), west coast about 40 minutes.
Travel
1 hour and 10 minutes to the airport. Car hire is esential.
Distances
The attractive town of Monchique is 4km down the hill.
Further details
Gardener who looks after the pool 3 mornings a week. Full English speaking management service to deal with any difficulties.

The peace and tranquility there is great and is just what you need if you are looking for a "get away from it all" holiday. It is also close enough to the coast so that you can visit the beaches and restaurants in the coastal towns.
The views are simply stunning and I enjoyed many a pleasant hour just sitting on the terrace enjoying the views down the mountain towards the coast. G.W (July 08).
