The house, swimming pool and gardens have been built and decorated with great love for detail. The building is whitewashed in soft ochre that makes it fit in with the local area and gives it an attractive traditional feel. Stone steps from the fenced in lawn behind the building lead you down to the large swimming pool (5m x 10m). Swimmers have a breathtaking view and a sensation of swimming right out into the valley, as the pool overflows on the valley side. The large, open fireplace in the sitting room is made from one large piece of pink marble. Originally planned to be an artist's studio, the sitting room has a fantastic panoramic view of the valley. From the bedrooms, French windows lead on to the Arab-style tiled terrace where cricket sound can be enjoyed at night with the odd owl's shriek. The two upstairs bedrooms both have French windows opening onto the same terrace. The kitchen is decorated in mouth-watering colours and equipped with all necessary equipment.

Changeover day
Change over day preferably Saturday. House ready for guests for 17h00 at the latest, usually by 15h00.
Guests vacate house by 10h00.

Notes on accommodation
Quinta de Sant’Ana is perfect for a peaceful rural family holiday, while still being just a short drive from many of Portugal’s great tourist attractions and the capital city of Lisbon. James will treat interested guests to a visit to vineyards followed by a wine tasting in the ancient ‘adega’.
Outside
The private pool with beautiful green tiles is 5 x 10m and 0,70m in the shallow end and 1,90m in the deep end. There is a fully fenced in lawned area preventing toddlers from going down to the pool while parents can admire the views enjoying a glass of the Quinta wine under the shaded pergola.
Coast/Beach
Ericeira is 20 minutes drive. Sandy beaches with excellent surf. Plenty of fish and sea food restaurants. Iberian Wolf Sanctuary nearby. The Quinta borders with the Tapada de Mafra, a huge wild life park that used to be the Kings' hunting grounds.
Golf
Well positioned for some of the worlds most attractive golf courses. Oitavos, Campo Real, (just 15 mins drive), Praia del Rei by Obidos 40 mins, Sintra and Estoril courses 45 mins.
Special interest holidays
Wine & Food is an important feature in this location; the house belongs to the wine estate Quinta de Sant'Ana. The owner gives vineyard tours and tastings in the winery for guests. During harvest time guests may wish to participate in grape picking and even grape treading in the ancient stone fermentation tanks! Picking seasons vary from end of August till mid October. Gourmet Dinner Nights with Wine Tastings before provide a chance for a culinary treat.
Travel
30 minutes drive from Lisbon airport. Public transport is poor in the area, so car hire is recommended, if you want to make the most of the area.
Distances
The village of Gradil is 2 minute drive from the house and 15 minutes by foot through the estates' vineyards.
Further details
Gradil has 3 restaurants, two general stores, butcher, chemist, post office and cash dispenser. It is a traditional rural village with cobbled roads and a fine church.
Booking notes
Guests will be asked to send a deposit of 50% of the total amount, which can be transferred to our bank account. The remaining amount is payable at least 4 weeks before arrival or during the check-in (cash payment).

About the owner
We have been living in Portugal for nearly 2 decades, raising our seven boys and living our dream of making our own wine a reality. Ann grew up on the farm, where, the Fürstenberg family lived until the revolution. James, from a farming background in Dorset, spends most of his time in the vineyards and wine cellars while Ann, a trained graphic designer, dedicates herself to running the holiday cottages and organizing events, including dinners, which guests can join.

Quinta de Sant'Ana overlooks the picturesque village of Gradil with its cobbled streets, white washed houses and hospitable inhabitants on one side and a stunning coulisse of vineyards, lined with ancient olive trees and cypresses on the south side. 10 hectares are vineyards, an ambitious and quality driven project. The remainder is split up between eucalyptus forests, fruit orchards and meadows.
Guests can eat "in house" or make the most of the three little restaurants at walking distance.
