We aim to provide a very high standard of country living and comfort with traditional architecture and modern facilities. Just on the edge of Castro Verde we have the advantage of the tranquillity and beauty of this fantastic landscape, plus all the facilities of the town. Within 5 minutes walking, or 2 minutes in the car, we have several excellent restaurants, cafes, shops and supermarkets. Monte da Quinta sets a high standard and has been approved and officially licensed by the Ministry of Tourism of Portugal. Classification Casa De Campo. We provide accommodation for up to 10 guests in two large, beautifully restored, self contained country houses set within 4.5 hectares. The grounds have mature Olive and Orange groves offering stunning views. Monte Da Quinta sits within the beautiful plains of the Alentejo region in Southern Portugal and is 45 minutes from the Algarve and West Coast. Notes on prices
Casa Laranjeira can be reserved as 1, 2 or 3 occupied bedrooms. Casa Oliveira can be reserved as 1 or 2 occupied bedrooms. Reduced rates apply, please see our website for more information. Our rates include heating charges for low season. We accept payment in Euros and UK Pounds. Rate Includes: complimentary guest hamper, initial sundries, weekly housekeeping, 100% cotton linen, towels and pool towels, replacement towels mid-week, water and electric.

Changeover day
Changeover days: Saturday in High Season.
Your house will be made available to you on your day of arrival at 4pm and must be vacated on your departure day by 10am.

Furnished to a high standard & can be reserved as 2 or 3 ensuite bedrooms. A large comfortable lounge & dining area, Wi-Fi, satellite, flat screen TV, DVD player & iPod dock. Well equipped kitchen with granite worktops a hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, kettle, iron & a ironing board.

All three bedrooms have en suite facilities, walk-in showers, WC, hand basin & bidet. Large doors open from the lounge onto a private covered dining terrace. For extra comfort this house has under floor heating for in low season & cooling fans in the high season.

The house is finished with traditional white washed walls & beautiful brick arches. It has terracotta floors throughout with wooden shuttered windows, vaulted beamed ceilings & an open fireplace. Single storey & built on solid rock, therefore the room levels do vary with one step between some rooms.

The immediate landscaped grounds offer further covered terrace with hammock, open terrace, BBQ areas & access to the swimming pool.

Notes on accommodation
Our beautifully stone built country houses are cool in the summer months and warm in the winter months. We have a solar powered hot water system and a natural salt water swimming pool.

We provide you with a Guest Hamper compliments of Monte da Quinta. Which includes: bottled water, regional wine and sheep's cheese, milk, tea, coffee and suger, fruit juice, locally baked bread and biscuits, butter, pate and our free range eggs. Champagne on ice can be arranged prior to your arrival. We also provide initial sundries.

We have a cot with linen, two travel cots and a baby chair.
A communal laundry room with several washing machines and a tumble dryer. We sell our own postcards, small souvenirs as well as honey, preserves, fresh free range eggs our olive oil and marmalade.

Monte da Quinta has been completely transformed; it now combines modern facilities and traditional architecture with an even balance between rural tourism, farming and a unique way of life.

Outside
Each house has a private covered dining terrace and garden with a brick built BBQ. Our guests are amazed at the unspoilt views over the Alentejo plains from the terraces at Monte da Quinta.

The salt water swimming pool is uniquely designed & measures 11.5m x 5m, a level 1.5 meters deep, situated within the landscaped areas immediately to the front of the houses. An elevated position providing a fantastic vantage point for the stunning southerly views. The pool uses a balance of natural salt rather than or chemical chlorines.
A 4 mtr circular children’s shallow play pool is incorporated in the main pool.

The main pool terrace has special non slip pavers surround the pool area. Ample loungers for sunbathing , sun shades and seating are provided. The lower terrace is slightly more secluded but still maintains an elevated position and views over the countryside.

We have a Boules pitch set within the landscaped grounds.

Coast/Beach
40 minutes drive south lies the popular and beautiful beaches and towns of the southern coastal region known as the Algarve.

60 minutes drive west lies the stunningly, unspoilt beaches, estuaries and towns along the Atlantic coastline.

Golf
Algarve 21 courses; closest within a 40 minute drive.
Costa Lisboa 11 courses; closest within a 40 minute drive.

Travel
Faro or Lisbon Airport. A toll road from Faro to Lisbon provides an alternative choice of route to Castro Verde. Both routes offer spectacular scenery through the Algarve and the Alentejo regions.

Faro Airport - 50 minutes on the A2 motorway.
Lisbon Airport - 1.5 hours on the A2 motorway.
Car hire is essential.

Distances
5 minutes walk into Castro Verde town centre, with restaurantes, shops and cafes. 2 minute drive to large supermarkets, open 7 days a week, with fresh meat and fish.

To the north are the towns of Beja, the capital of the Alentejo province (30 minutes), Evora (2 hours), Mertola (45 minutes)and the captial Lisbon (1.5 hours); all beautiful towns and steeped in history.

The Algarve is less than 1 hour. An easy trip to visit the towns of Faro, Lagos, Portimao, Loule, Albufeira, and Tavira.

Within walking distance the extremely well equipped town has several restaurants and coffee shops, a choice of three large supermarkets with excellent fresh fish, meat and deli counters, a health centre with A&E and 24hr pharmacy and a large open air market on the 1st Wednesday of every month. The town has boutiques, hardware and household shops. There is a post office, several banks with cash points, an internet cafe, a night club, public swimming pools and tennis courts, a spa offering various therapies and treatments, a coach station, cinema, several churches a cultural centre and museum. There are also several petrol stations within Castro Verde.

Rest assured - Our holiday cottages were restored to strict guidelines set by the Ministry of Tourism of Portugal, our classification is Casa de Campo.

Booking notes
Payment in Sterling or Euros. We require your 40% non-refundable deposit when making your reservation. Reservations are not guaranteed until we are in receipt of your deposit. The balance must be received 6 weeks prior to your arrival. All bookings made within 4 weeks of arrival must be paid in full.

Feeding the hens at Monte da Quinta

About the owner
Having bought Monte da Quinta in the Summer of 2002 with the intention of it becoming our retirement home, we found it increasingly hard to return from visits to the hustle and bustle of the UK. With much planning and determination finally in the summer of 2005, leaving three of our eldest boys settled in the UK, our youngest son and I moved to Portugal. My partner Nigel remained behind for twelve months securing a European position within his company.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Project managing the build and restoration of the houses, we took inspiration from some of the fantastic accommodation we had stayed at within Europe. With our love for all things rustic, traditional and the ambiance of the Casa da Campo 'House of the Country' life style, Monte da Quinta started to evolve. Most importantly, we wanted to maintain the traditions and farming practises that had taken place at Monte da Quinta for many generations. With little knowledge of our own, we enlisted the help of a former employee of the farm 'Manuel'. Despite our initial lack of the Portuguese language, his patience with us and dedication to the land and the animals has kept the farm blooming.

Unique benefits of the property
The farm has the benefit of a tranquil location and outlook, yet just a 10 minute stroll into the streets of Castro Verde town. Plenty of places to try the traditional local dishes and robust wines of the region and all within walking distance. We wanted to provide accommodation suitable of for all ages and agendas: those that like to amble in the countryside, explorers and historians, adventurers discovering new cultures, activities for the restless and tranquillity for those that like to relax in comfort.
