Bedrooms with verandas, the patio and large garden all enjoy glorious uninterrupted views of forests and distant mountains. Lovely walks from the door. Lake for picnicking and impromptu swims within walking distance. Village amenities, cafes, restaurants, 5-15 minutes’ drive. River beaches with sunbathing and canoeing facilities in nearby Penacova. Excellent base for exploring historic Coimbra, coast and mountains.

Notes on accommodation
The house has two floors. The whole ground floor, originally used for wine-making, has been converted into a light, open-plan living, kitchen and dining area that adjoins the patio, garden and courtyard with downstairs bathroom. There are wooden floors throughout. An internal wooden staircase leads to the first floor consisting of the two bedrooms, upstairs bathroom and porch. There is also a traditional, external stone staircase leading from the courtyard up to the first floor. Fans, wood-burning stove, electric heaters.
Outside
Large terraced garden with small pond and fruit and olive trees and uninterrupted views of woods and distant mountains. Because the garden is steeply terraced and has a small pond young children would require supervision.
Coast/Beach
Large river beaches with sunbathing facilities and refreshments at Penacova (15 minutes) and Coja (25 minutes). Nearest Silver Coast beaches at Figueira da Foz (50 minutes) and Mira (1 hour).
Golf
Coimbra (35 minutes), Viseu (45 minutes).
Skiing
Serra de Estrela (1 hour).
Travel
Because of the tucked-away location of the house, use of a car is essential. Fly to Porto or Lisbon, hire a car at the airport and make the easy drive - motorway/dual carriageway nearly all the way. Both airports are served by budget airlines. The drive from Porto airport takes 1hour and 45minutes. The drive from Lisbon takes 2hours and 30 minutes.

Further details
The house is well located for walking, cycling, bird-watching, canoeing, horse riding, fishing. Coimbra with its elegant shops, bars, restaurants, old town, historic university and cathedral is an easy drive from the house. Penacova with its banks, shops, pharmacy, museum, river beaches and internet café is 15 minutes’ drive.
