Casa Santo Clair is a large single storey villa sleeping up to nine in four bedrooms set in a mature garden (0.5 acre) with extensive terraced areas and built-in BBQ. A large pool (10x5 metres) with solar panels for heating as necessary has plenty of sun loungers, chairs and outside eating areas. Bedroom 4 is served by a separate family bathroom with large walk - in shower, vanity unit and wc.
Kitchen: There is a spacious new (2010) farmhouse style kitchen/diner with range cooker, American fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker etc, new range of kitchen units, well stocked with equipment, crockery and glasses.
Utility Room: The spacious utility room which has fitted cupboards, cooker, washing machine, drier and large drinks fridge.
Living Rooms: The large sitting room with log burning fire for the cooler months is linked to a formal dining area and a further covered outside eating area for summer use.
Other: The study / TV room has a new Sony 40" flat screen television with sky satellite for viewing all UK free to air programmes and a smaller log burning stove makes this a cosy room out of season.

All linen and towels (not beach towels) are provided and changed weekly by the maid who cleans for four hours twice a week.

Notes on accommodation
The property is ideally suited to two families with two bedrooms on either side of the living accommodation.
Every room has an electric heater.
There are fans for each bedroom.

Outside
Private secluded Swimming Pool - 10 x 5 metres. Solar panels for heating as necessary. Large terraced area for sun loungers around pool.
Outdoor eating areas, undercover and in sun.
Mature garden (0.5 acre) extensive paved areas, fenced around, built in barbecue.

Coast/Beach
Various south coast beaches including Alvor, Pria de Rocha, Carviero and Benagil within half hour by car plus many more to the East and West.
The more rugged beaches on the West Coast are under an hour away where good surfing can be found.

Golf
Many of the finest older courses in the Algarve were designed by Sir Henry Cotton who lived close by at La Penina. Some 25% of all the courses in the Algarve are within approx. 25/30km of Casa Santo Clair. La Penina at 15 km has the famous Championship Course a masterpiece which is used regularly for the Portuguese open. In addition the Resort (9 holes) and Academy Courses (9 holes) can challenge the average golfer. Closer to CSC at Morgado do Reguengo at 12 km there are two championship courses, Morgado and Alamos on a private estate nestling on the lower slopes of the Monchique hills. These come highly recommended.

Travel
Car hire is essential and the Villa is 1 hour from Faro Airport mostly via new fast dual carriageway.

Caldas de Monchique (0.5km). Local Spa Village.
Monchique (5 km) Closest town.
Portimao (19 km) Large town with all shops.
Silves (20 km) Moorish town with large supermarket.

Further details
There are numerous small restaurants within walking distance (for those able to return up hill!) and very many in the area. Caldas is the local small town where many spa treatments are available. Monchique Town has a daily covered market and a small supermarket. A network of walks and bike trails from the house. A small zoo mainly for breeding threatened species is close by (1 Km). Marine World (Guia) 30 Km, a spectacular place for dolphins, seals, parrots etc. Black Hole Water Park (Lagoa, 15Km) Hours of fun for "water babies". Many other attractions for those who can drag themselves away from the peace and beauty at the villa!

Casa Santo Clair is the family home in the Algarve of an award winning Architect / Landscape Architect and his wife. We enjoy the villa and it's surroundings mainly in Spring and Autumn, sometimes with our grown up children and grandchildren. The close proximity of great golf courses is a special attraction. Whilst not there we are happy to share the benefits with you as clients

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Casa Santo Clair is set in the tranquil setting of the Monchique Hills with it's gentle climate and spectacular views to the distant sea. The villa (280m) is set on the lower slopes of Picota which at 774m is the second tallest peak in the Algarve. The hills are extensively wooded with pine, eucalyptus, oak, mimosa and about 1,000 plant species. In 1997 the Monchique region was designated an EC Natura 2000 zone, one of several sites in Portugal chosen for the beauty and rarity of it's landscape. There is a large variety of wildlife and is an especially good bird and butterfly watching area. Caldas de Monchique is ideally situated to explore beaches on both coasts. To the south these are 20/25 mins away and the wilder west coast a little further. Faro airport is approx. 1 hour.

Unique benefits of the property
Access from Faro airport is by fast recently completed dual carriageway roads which also interlock with the local area and facilities. The villa has on site parking for up to 6 cars as well as having foot access to the local wooded walks. The climate in the Algarve is one of the healthiest and most pleasant in the world, comparable to California. The dual benefit of the treed setting in the Monchique hills are the gentle breezes and shade on warm days. As a result, Caldas was much favoured by the Portuguese nobility who also enjoyed the spa waters from the local springs and the treatment facilities which have recently been dramatically updated.
