Outside
The house is adjacent to the owners shrubberies, flower gardens and pond in steeply terraced gardens and visitors have the use of certain areas. The pool (11m by 7m) is shared with the owners and there is a good range of poolside and garden furniture. There is also a barbecue.
Coast/Beach
The family seaside resort of Vila Praia de Âncora is about 15km away, and either side of it, along a 50km stretch, are the many safe, clean beaches of the Costa Verde - surf beaches, sandy, rocky, wide, discreet, family, romantic beaches - you can go to a different one each day to suit your mood. There are also warm, sheltered river beaches on the River Lima, within 8km.
Golf
· Ponte de Lima (20km), part of “a bucolic scenery of mountains, vineyards and fruit gardens”, is a course typical of the Minho region. Par 71, 6005m, including Portugal's longest hole at 622m (par 5). · Estela (50km), built on a 3km stretch of sand dunes on the beautiful Costa Verde, this is one of the Portuguese golf links that secured a high reputation for itself when it hosted two events in the European Professionals' Circuit. Par 72, 6129m. · Quinta da Barca golf resort (35km), an excellent 9-hole course with stunning views over the Cavado River. Par 31, 2012m.
Travel
Porto airport - 80km (45 minutes by motorway). Airport pick-up on request. Also easily accessible from Santiago de Compostela, Orvieto and Vigo airports. Bilbao & Santander ferry ports (from Portsmouth & Plymouth) are a days drive away. A car is recommended, and we have special rates available for car hire.
Distances
The Dacha is in the middle of a triangle: Viana do Castelo (the main historic port of the region), Ponte de Lima (the distinctive centre of Minho tourism) and Vila Praia de Âncora (a pleasant family seaside resort), are all about 15km away and easily reached by a winding main road or motorway. Nearest cities - Braga (50km), Vigo (Spain) (80km), Porto (90km). Spanish border - 50km. Peneda-Gerês National Park - 50km.
Further details
In the far north of Portugal, Vilar de Murteda is an attractive, scattered hillside place of about 400 people, in a heavily wooded zone (pine and eucalyptus) on the way up to Serra d'Arga (784m). The village has a couple of cafés, and a 'mini-mercado' that sells everything from spaghetti to farm equipment. The main shops and restaurants are 15km away, and we'll provide a personalised guide to these as well as shops, places to visit and things to do.
