Outside
The pool (9m x 5m) is heated using a heat pump. It is currently open to small children but we intend to have it secure for toddlers by the summer of 2006. The garden is secure and private. There is garden furniture for 10 with tables and two large parasols. The patio runs the length of the building and all rooms open onto it. The parking area is large enough for 2 cars and is secure behind high steel gates. The garden has an automatic sprinkler system. The pool machine room is landscaped into the garden.
Coast/Beach
This coast has mile after mile of beach with golden sand. It is the Atlantic so there is no shortage of surf and it is popular with surfers. The nearest beach is in Caminha about 7km from the villa, this has a shelterd spot inside the mouth of the beautiful Minho river. The next beach is Moledo which is rather trendy and a few km on from there is Ancora which is a bit more commercial, after that Afife which is huge and wide-open. There are small bars and restaurants at all the beaches.
Golf
One of the best 18 hole golf courses in North Portugal is about half an hour away in Ponte De Lima. See portugalgolfcourses.com
Travel
BA, TAP & Ryanair fly to Porto airport which is an hour away by car. The motorway is quite empty and snakes it's way through lovely countryside. Ryanair also fly from Liverpool to Santiago de Compostela in Spain which is only 1.5 hrs from Caminha (on motorway). Bilbao and Santander ferry ports are a day's drive to the North.
Distances
The villa is a few minutes by car from Caminha which is a historic market town with medieval walls, cobbled streets, bars, cafes and restaurants. Vila Nova de Cerveira is perhaps 15 minutes away by car. It has a similar historic centre with bars and cafes but it also has a wonderful outdoor Saturday market. Viana do Castelo and Ponte de Lima are about 20 minutes by car, they are the largest local towns and both offer historical interest.
Further details
A drive into Spain for shopping and site-seeing is very easy from the new bridge at Vila Nova de Cerveira. Porto offers some astonishing shopping malls with all the international brands you could hope for under one roof. Of course Porto is the second capital of Portugal that is famous for its wines, culture and historic sites.
