Old farm cottage has been in the family for generations and which we carefully restored from ruins in 2005, using traditional materials (schist and granite). With 2 bedrooms, kitchen and lounge/dining room, it is nicely furnished and fully equipped. Outside there's a pool, children's swings and a steeply terraced garden.

Coast/Beach
The “Costa Verde” starts nearby (15km) and stretches for more than 100km, with a different beach every few kilometers, most of them wide and sandy, uncrowded and safe. There’s more beaches across the river in Spain, or you can go to the warm and sheltered river beaches on the banks of the Minho river. For something completely different, bathe in one of the secluded waterfalls and mountain pools on the Serra.
Travel
Porto airport - 80km (75km of it motorway).
Ferry: Bilbao & Santander ferry ports (from Portsmouth or Plymouth) are a day's drive away.
Car (essential): We can arrange car hire from Porto Airport at good rates. Arga de S. João is 4km from the A28 motorway, which links directly with Porto Airport and the national motorway system.
Distances
Arga de S. João sits at the top of Serra de Arga, overlooking the Minho valley and the border with Spain. Caminha – 13km; Vila Nova de Cerveira – 20km; Viana do Castelo – 25km; Braga – 60km; Porto – 90km; Vigo (Spain) – 70km.
Further details
The village itself is tiny, with just a café. There’s a larger grocery shop about 5km away, supermarkets in Caminha and Âncora and a hypermarket in Viana do Castelo. The Minho region is famous for its cuisine all over Portugal and every town has plenty of restaurants where you can get a superb meal at very reasonable cost.
