Casa das Amendoeiras is a family home located about 15km to the east of Faro airport - about 3km inland, in small hills at the edge of the coastal plain. It sleeps 12 people comfortably, plus infants. The house is set on a hill in a little under 2 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens with palm trees, lawns, flowering trees and shrubs and a variety of fruit trees. There are excellent views from the large roof terrace of the surrounding countryside and of the sea at Fuseta. The entire coastal region east of Faro - the Ria Formosa National Park - is being conserved by the Portuguese government as an area of outstanding natural beauty. Whilst the house is self contained - with solar heated pool screened by a childproof fence, tennis, table tennis and first class indoor and outdoor kitchens, 2 large indoor lounges, a roof terrace and lots of shady seating areas outside - it is only a short drive from golf courses, beaches, restaurants and the National Park.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in UK pounds. For groups of more than 12 (excluding infants) and up to 15 there may be an additional charge of £50 per additional person per week. Prices are fixed and include the maid, regular linen and towel changes, electricity, gas and water.

Changeover day
Thursday, although Saturday may also be possible out of high season. We ask guests to vacate by 10.00am and not to arrive before 4.00pm, to allow time for thorough cleaning.

Bedrooms: The main house has 5 large and airy bedrooms - 2 doubles, 1 double +1, 2 triples.
All double beds are queen size. Each bedroom has a mini CD stereo system.
There is a further (ordinary size) double bedroom in the pool house.
Bathrooms: 4 of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with wc, walk-in shower and basin.
The 5th bathroom has both a bath and a large shower.
The pool house also has a wc/shower room.
Kitchen: Air-conditioned kitchen (2005) with cooker (gas hob, electric oven), granite surfaces, new units, 2 fridge/freezers, microwave oven, dishwasher, toaster, electric kettles and sundry other gadgets. Further fridges in pool house.
Utility Room: 2 automatic washing machines are installed in the laundry at the rear of the pool house, and there are clothes airing and ironing facilities.
Living Rooms: 2 large sitting rooms, each with 2 large comfy sofas, easy chairs and CD mini systems. Digital satellite TV (UK terrestrial channels and news) and wood burning stove. Wireless broadband. Separate dining room which seats 10 in comfort - more at a push.
Other: The pool house of 30m2 contains a further bedroom, a large sitting room with drinks fridge and a shower room/wc.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
Filomena, our housekeeper, works 2 or 3 days per week. Her duties are to clean and tidy the house and regularly provide fresh bed linen and towels (including pool towels).

Notes on accommodation
Up to 15 people can be accommodated, but we recommend a maximum of 12 plus infants. There is a ceiling fan in every room, oil filled radiators and an open fire in one of the lounges. Each lounge has a CD/mini hi-fi system, books, audio and video cassettes. One has satellite TV with video and DVD players. Large, brick built outdoor kitchen in the garden; this has a gas griddle, charcoal grill, fridge and running water. There is a telephone and calls are metered. We ask that payment for calls is made in cash at the end of the holiday.
A welcome basket is provided.
Filomena, our housekeeper, may be available for additional duties, but these would be the subject of a separate agreement. Richard Campbell lives locally and with his wife Treasa is responsible for keeping the house and pool in good order.

Outside
The house is set on a hill in a little under 2 acres of landscaped gardens with lots of exotic flowering shrubs and palm trees as well as oranges, lemons, tangerines, figs, pomegranites, almonds and apricots. There are excellent views from the large roof terrace of the surrounding countryside and of the sea at Fuseta. On the roof at night you can enjoy unparalleled views of the night sky - the Milky Way is easily visible because there's no light pollution. There is a 10m x 5m solar heated swimming pool with lots of lounging space and a separate studio/pool house. Sunbeds and shades are provided. We have a new (2001) championship floodlit tennis court.
The house is secluded but not isolated and the grounds include a number of terraces carefully designed to ensure a choice of sun or shade at all times of the day.

Coast/Beach
The area is justly famous for its long, clean and uncrowded beaches, many of which have a lifeguard service in summer. A sand bar stretches some 30km along the coast and is reached by crossing a tidal lagoon.
Fuzeta, about 10 minutes' drive from the house, has a public ferry service (summer months only) and a year-round water taxi to Armona Island - part of the sand bar - where you can choose between calm, lagoon facing beaches or those facing the Atlantic.

Golf
Across the valley - within 500m - is an Apartotel with restaurant and 9 hole golf course - €25 per round and excellent for practising the short game.
At least 3 of the finest golf courses in the world - including Quinta do Lago - are less than 40 minutes away. The Eastern Algarve has 4 excellent new courses – Benamor, Quinta de Ria, Quinta da Cima and Castro Marim – between 15/30 minutes away. There are some excellent (and cheap) courses 30 minutes away - across the border in Spain.

Travel
Situated 15km to the east of Faro airport. Most people visiting the Algarve find it essential to hire a car. This will enable you to visit a wider variety of the beautiful beaches, a coastal wetlands national park and the many unspoilt towns and villages - most with very reasonably priced restaurants - in the area.

A map and clear directions on how to get from Faro airport will be sent prior to your departure. If you wish, it may be possible to arrange to meet you at the airport.
The surrounding countryside is unspoilt and predominantly agricultural. There are very few fences, and so it is possible to walk unimpeded for miles from the house. Local wildlife is abundant: the Eastern Algarve is a paradise for botanists and ornithologists.

The regional capitals - Tavira and Olhao - are bustling towns, each about 15 minutes from the house. There can be found superb fruit, vegetable and fish markets and a number of good local shops and supermarkets. There is excellent day to day shopping in our local village of Moncarapacho (3km) and the coastal town of Fuseta (3km). Fuseta and Olhao markets are particularly worth a visit. With the completion of the A22 motorway Spain is easily accessible (Seville under 2 hours).

Booking notes
We require a 25% deposit on booking. The remainder, together with a refundable breakages deposit of £300, is due 8 weeks prior to departure.
