Casa MardiGras is our beautiful and much loved family holdiay home. It is situated in the lovely Vale of Larenjeiro which is set between the delightful village of Moncarapacho and the larger town of Olhao. The inside is modern, extremely well appointed and equipped; a real home from home. The village of Moncarapacho has good supermarkets, a morning market, lovely restaurants (Collibri is outstanding value and always busy) and two banks. The larger town of Olhao with everything you need is just a short drive away. Some of the best fish restaurants on the Algarve are to be found in Olhao. Nearby is the coastal town of Fuzeta lying within the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve. There is a safe and sandy beach there (see photograph) but, if you take a 5 minute ferry ride you will be transported to the Isla de Armona which has some of the best beaches on the Algarve. The historic town of Tavira is 25 minutes east and the fabulous shops and beaches of Faro are only 25 minutes west.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds.
For rental periods in excess of two weeks a discount may be given. Reductions for low occupancy always considered. Winter lets (November - February incl) gas extra at cost. Long winter lets - £1100 per month - gas extra at cost in euros (min stay of four weeks).

Changeover day
Saturday is preferred but we try to be flexible. Property should be vacated by 10.00 am on departure day and arrival should not be planned before 4.00 pm.

Kitchen: Smeg ceramic hob and electric oven. Bosch dishwasher, fridge/freezer, coffee maker, toaster, kettle etc.
Utility Room: Sink, washing machine, iron, ironing board, clothes dryer/airer.
Living Rooms: Large open plan living room with woodburner, satellite TV with English channels, DVD, video, iPod docking station, CD/radio, and well stocked bookcase. Dining area easily seats 8 plus highchair.
Other: Smoking is not permitted inside the house.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
All linen and towels (exluding beach towels) are provided. Cleaning service and linen change is weekly.

 

Notes on accommodation
The house is very suited to two families sharing. We have excellent Villa Management who are always available to help and advise you and we can also arrange for you to be met at Faro Airport. We have a 'travel cot' for little ones not yet in a single bed. Lilos and other inflatables are provided for the pool.

Outside
The property is completely fenced and gated to ensure absolute privacy. The 10 x 5 metre pool complete with sun loungers and outside shower is set in a beautiful sun terrace. The house also benefits from large inside terraced areas to protect you from the sun and for comfortable Al Fresco eating.

Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is Fuseta which is a simple ten minute drive and all the major attractions of the Western Algarve are just twenty five minutes west.

Golf
The nearest golf course is a short distance away to the east of Moncarapacho. Colina Verde is a 9 hole golf course. Campo de Golf in Maragota has magnificent views both inland and out to sea. The 9 hole incorporates 8 par 3s and 1 par 4. It is worth booking in advance for any round of golf at any of the golf courses in the Algarve through Colina Vede's booking service; this will result in a discounted rate on green fees. Remember to bring your handicap certificate if you have one.
To the west - Vale de Lobo - the epicentre of European Golf is only 30 minutes away.

Travel
Faro airport is 20-25 minutes away. Junction 15 of the motorway (A22, formerly IP1) which runs from the Spanish border to Lagos in the west is less than 5 minutes away. The nearest rail station is at Fuzeta. Car hire is essential.

Distances
Moncarapacho is the nearest village and is 2.5 kms away (a 5 minute drive at most), but there is a local shop within 1km that stocks milk etc and a new bar/restaurant has just been opened.

Further details
This is a also a great area for birdwatching. The red backed shrike, the whoopoe and the sardinian warbler have all been seen and photographed from the house together with 'little owl' who visits regularly. If you visit the Ria Formosa natural park you can see many migratory birds.
Shops: 'Ali's Super' which is the local supermarket in Moncarapacho is open seven days a week - 8.00 am until 8.00 pm. All four supermarkets in Olhao are open seven days a week. It is advisable to bring euro's cash and then use your bank card for extra withdrawals. The local banks are not up to speed with travellers cheques. Withdrawing money from the cash machines is a simple procedure and transacted in English. There is also an internet cafe in Moncarapacho so you can keep in touch with home and work if you really need to.

Booking notes
A deposit (30% non-refundable) is required on reservation. The balance must be paid in full eight weeks prior to your arrival date. For reservations made less than eight weeks before the date of your arrival, full payment is required at the time you book. We do ask for a security/damage bond. Payment must be in GBP.
