This beautiful property sits on the top of a hill on one hectare of land with wide sweeping south facing views of the local countryside and the sea. It is approached up a private 200m track which affords it total seclusion. The garden is mainly gravel with flower beds of prolific oleander, hibiscus, lavender, almond and carob trees. Shade is provided on the south and east facing terraces with deep verandas - perfect for al fresco dining and there is a totally private roof terrace for sun worshippers. The pool is 10m and salt water and has a covered barbeque area/pool house and outside shower. The property itself is full of character but has a brand new fitted kitchen with range cooker, Santa Caterina tiles on the floors, cane and pole ceilings but white double glazed French doors to every room. Two bedrooms are in the main body of the house and the third one has a separate entrance, en-suite bathroom, mini galley kitchen and private terrace. This property is the owners "home" .

Coast/Beach
Approximately 7km to beach. At Pedras del Rey - Barill Beach. 5km to unspoilt Ria Formosa small beach and swimming at high tide.

Golf
Golf is available at 4 local courses. Benamor is the nearest 10 minutes away, Quinta da Ria with 2 eighteen hole courses 5 minutes further and Castro Marim 30 minutes away on the Spanish border. All are interesting courses and offer special deals for green fees.

Travel
Faro airport 35 minutes away approximately 35km - via motorway. Car hire is essential. Seville offers another option 160k/two hours away in an Easterly direction.

Further details
The property is within walking distance of the village where there a excellent local restaurant "O Forno", the church, ATM, Post Office, Pharmacy and two mini supermakets offering meat, cheeses, local fruit and vegtables, free range eggs, wine and beer. On the road to Luz de Tavira there are a further two restaurants but the English in these mmight be a little more limited. The City of Tavira offers the best of old and new and has superb restaurants, and an excellent cultural programme offering everything from street theatre, festas, an outdoor international summer film festival , museums, weekly concerts held in various of the 36 churches and a world class art gallery. There is a daily, morning food market selling fish, meat, fruit and begtables. For those interested in architecture Tavira feasts the eyes having benefitted from a very strict planning/development policy which has ensured the retention of original features in all the old buildings. Look out for the typical clawed hand door knockers. The nearest beach is Barrill which is accessed either by foot or by taking the little small train. This beach is ideal for children but further towards Tavira is the extremly trendy Sta Luzia and its magnificent Terra Estreita beach which is difficult to beat. Access is via a speedboat from the jetty and costs about 3€ return. Other beaches abound to the West and East of these two and no visit to this area would be complete without seeing Isla Deserta - The boat for here leaves from just outside Faros old city walls. Cacelha Velha and Fabrica are also local and fun and have excellent lunch opportunities. Another worthwhile trip is a trip up the Guardiana river, either by boat or car. The Guardiana separates Portugal and Spain and numerous little villages cling to the West bank offering superb views and fun food. Alcoutim even has a little river "beach".
A stones throw from the house you can be in the unspoilt hills with simply wonderful walking.

About the owner
As I cannot make up my mind between Southern Ireland and the Easter Algarve I commute between the two each year. I have owned property in the latter since 2003. Both locations are unspoilt, the people unspoilt and they offer something special. I live on my own with a domineering, rescued German Shorthaired Pointer. Finding and renovating property has always been the love of my live so all my properties are individual and furnished and equipped to a high standard. All are all in superb locations whether they be surrounded by the lush Irish countryside or Portugese orange groves.

Casa das Cicadas in a unique property in an exclusive, secluded location. I bought the property instantly without the need to even go inside it! The village is one of the most sought after in the Eastern Algarve. Easy to access, full of character, close to the sea but set well enough back from the coast and motorway to offer peace and quiet.
