This apartment (constructed in 2002 by Mowlem) is furnished to a high specification as a second home and it is centrally located on the completed Alto Golf and Country Club Complex. It is within 200 meters of the Golf Club House and it offers a peaceful front line golf location. It is one of 4 such apartments contained in a detached building (adjoining apartment Ref P927 is also owned by the same family) and surrounded by landscaped gardens with a private swimming pool (for use by 4 such buildings). The location is approximately a 10 minute walk from the coast, and a stunning sandy beach, and is only 2km away from both Alvor and the town of Portimao. Guests have a 40% reduction in Green Fees at the Pestana run Alto Golf Course, and there is a Health Club with all facilities located within 1km. Notes on prices
Prices are UK Pounds for the apartment rental, for any 7 day booking. Additional days pro rata, minimum stay 4 days. For a 2 person only occupancy deduct 10%. Maximum occupancy 5 persons. Choose start and finish days as required.
Cost includes all services with mid week towel/linen change and mid term clean with linen change for 2 weekly rentals.

Booking dates are flexible as are arrival and departure times which will depend on the specific booking situation.

Notes on accommodation
The apartment is offered as strictly non smoking. Full air temperature heating and cooling by separate remote controlled units located in each bedroom and the lounge/diner. Cavity wall insulation and 2 self draining dehumidifiers enable comfortable occupancy throughout the year. The choice of 2 covered terraces provide the necessary shade for dining and relaxing in the summer months. Mosquito screens are incorporated in both the bedroom and lounge/diner rooms. The ground floor storage room which is adjacent to the dedicated parking can be used for golf clubs and beach items. A cot can be provided if requested at additional cost, feeding chair included. Toddlers do need supervision on the front terrace because of the railings and its second floor position. Note that the adjoining apartment is owned by the same family Ref P927. Guests are provided with a key to the lock up for storage of cases/golf clubs and are welcome to utilise the childrens toys stored there.
Outside
The delightful covered front terrace has elevated views over the golf course and the Monchique Mountains. The high quality outside furniture consists of a 3 piece suite with a glass top coffee table a a 6 seater glass top dining table. The rear terrace is also equipped with a 6 seater table and leads directly into the landscaped gardens with the low occupancy shared swimming pool. This pool is some 60 meters away and incorporates a childrens section. It is equipped with furniture so the area is ideal for sunbathing.
Coast/Beach
The apartment is located close to what are universally regarded as the most beutiful beaches and coastline of the Algarve. The nearest stunning sandy beach (called the Presidents beach since a recent Portuguese President has a house there), is only 10 minutes walk away and this links via a coastal or shoreline walk (at low tide) into the extensive Vau and Praia da Rocha beaches which eventually end at the Marina and breakwater which forms the entrance to the river Arade.
Golf
Alto Golf, now operated by Pestana who have other courses in the area, is a moderately priced British owned course designed by Sir Henry Cotton and its perimeter incorporates recently constructed villas and beautiful mature landscaped rolling gardens close to the sea and with the Monchique mountains forming a backdrop. The course has an excellent and extensive driving range within a 5 minute walk from the apartment, and it is regarded as one of the best on the Algarve. A golf school also operates from this location. Guests are offered a 40% reduction in Green Fees on this course and a 25% discount at other Pestana Courses in the area.
Many alternative and excellent quality courses are within a short drive away and these include Penina, Quinta de Morgado (new), Palmares and Gramacho, Boavista and Salgados. Travel
Faro airport is linked to the Western Algarve via a motorway (which extends up to Lisbon and also into the eastern Algarve and hence Spain/Gibraltar) and the apartment is approximately a 45 minute drive away. A taxi from the airport will cost approximately €60 each way. It is recommended that a car is hired (either at the airport or locally after arrival) especially if the area is to be properly explored and advice on this can be provided.
Distances
There is a good bus service available and a limited train service (which extends from Lagos in the west along to the eastern Algarve close to Spain and also up to Lisbon). Car hire does of course give much more flexible access with both Alvor village and Portimao town being about 5 minutes drive away. These locations provide access to a wide range of shops and hypermarkets. The picturesque sea front town of Lagos, the Monchique mountains, and the ancient town of Silves involve a 20 minute drive.
Further details
Alvor is an atmospheric and much loved fishing village located on an extensive estuary which provides a fantastic vista and includes a wild life sanctuary. This aspect can be viewed from a long waterside promenade. The region also has an extensive sandy beach. A maze of cobbled and narrow streets contain houses which are largely occupied by local inhabitants together with many restaurants some of whom barbecue fish on the pavements. In the surrounding area from the apartment numerous other restaurants can be visited to suit all tastes and budgets. For example Portimao is principally a Portuguese working town and it is an easy matter to eat where the locals do at much less cost.
Details are provided in the apartment of restaurants and many leisure activities which are kept updated. It is also possible to book many organised excursions (Seville, Lisbon, Gibraltar etc) from the Country Club reception.
Metered Taxis are easy to acquire and fares are reasonable (€5 from the apartment into Alvor for example) and the Golf Club reception, just a very short walk away, will call one if required.
Cash Machines are readily available outsibe banks and inside the majority of both small and large supermarkets. English is widely spoken in shops, bars and restaurants in the area. Contact for free disc of pictures of both the area and the apartment.
Booking notes
Prices quoted are total for the apartment in UK pounds (Euros also accepted) for any 7 night stay (4 nights minimum), and prices are pro rata. Booking confirmation requires a 10% deposit with the balance payable up to 4 weeks before departure. The cost includes water and elecricity and linen/towel changes (see above) together with an arival and departure clean. Occupancy for 14 days also includes a mid term clean. A 10% discount for a two person occupancy applies.

About the owner
We are a retired couple living in Cardiff and we have equipped our apartment in Portugal from new to use as a second home following the sale of our Dutch Barge on the French Canals.
Our eldest son and his wife are our neighbours in a block of 4 such apartments.
We decided to choose Portugal mainly because of the friendly nature of the people, the access to rural locations, beautiful scenery and beaches and the unhurried lifestyle which it offers plus of course the climate!
We have made many friends in the area and when we visit we are transported into a totally different lifestyle with a chance to enjoy local food (especially fish from the local market) and Portuguese wine. In particular we often use the apartment as a base to explore other areas of Portugal.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
This region of the Western Algarve is regarded as a hidden gem. Alvor remains as a peaceful working fishing village with a daily held fish market supplied from boats based in the estuary and some of the the most beautiful and extensive sandy beaches in the Algarve are located here.
We decided to purchase this apartment as it is situated on a quiet no through road which is adjacent to the 10th green of Alto Golf Course and also because it is only a 10 minute walk from the nearest undeveloped beach. The location also provides ready access to all the local ammenities such as restaurants, shops and activity attractions. The area with its beautiful coastline provides an ideal environment for walking and the Monchique Mountains (as viewed from the front terrace) are only a 30 min drive away.
Unique benefits of the property
When booking (or by request) guests are sent a disc of information and pictures.
There is a shared pool (for 4 blocks of 4 apartments) in the rear gardens with a children's section.
Of particular advantage (especially in hot weather) are the front and rear terraces of the apartment which provide shade and keep the indoor areas cool.
A key is provided to the lock up storage area on the ground floor in which toys are kept for children in addition to pool inflatables and beach items.
Guests who wish to play golf are offered a generous discount at the Alto Golf course and also on other Pestana run courses in the area.
There is a Health Club with all usual facilities located approx 1km away.
The apartment has a Rental Safety Certificate issued by the Portuguese authorities (gas free).
