Villa Cegonha, brand new in 2006, is in a select location, with magnificent views of Praia da Luz and the Ocean. Architecturally designed and built to the highest standards as the owners' '2nd home', it has every facility for a relaxing family holiday, including a pool. A split-level design, on the main (upper) level there is a generous entrance hall and upon entering you get an immediate taste of the magnificent views from the large living/dining room beyond. Also off the hall is a fully equipped kitchen, 2 spacious twin-bedded bedrooms (both en-suite) plus a guest cloakroom. A wrap-around balcony and a BBQ area provide a wonderful space for al-fresco dining or just relaxing. Pick fresh lemons from the garden for your 'gin & tonics'. At the lower level is a large pool-side master suite, a laundry/utility and a (outside) guest cloakroom by the pool area, the latter equipped with sun loungers. At roof level is a totally private sun terrace. There is a strict 'No Smoking' policy.

Notes on accommodation
Villa ergonomically designed/built to keep the interior cool in the summer without the need for unsightly air-conditioning units, and warm in the winter. Under floor heating in living/dining room and bathrooms during low season. Cot/high chair hire, possibly even baby-sitting, can be provided at extra cost. As there are stairs between levels, and the pool is not 'fenced off', children must be closely supervised at all times.
Outside
Spacious sun terrace and also shaded areas around the swimming pool, equipped with sun loungers. The pool, 8m x 4m and south facing has a salt-water chlorinator to avoid skin/eye irritation, is 1.50m at its deepest to 1.20m and can be heated in the mid/low seasons at extra cost; use of pool cover overnight will retain higher temperature. Weekly pool maintenance provided. The extensive wrap-around balcony at the upper level includes a BBQ area and is furnished for al-fresco dining or just relaxing and provides superb views of Praia da Luz and the sea. At roof level is a further large, totally private sun terrace and even more panoramic views. There is a pleasant, irrigated garden to the north side of the villa (pick your own fresh lemons when in season for your 'G&Ts') and decorative pots/planters around the pool/sun terrace; garden maintenance provided.
Coast/Beach
The glorious beach of Praia da Luz is a 15/20 minute walk, although it will take a little longer coming back. The beach is very safe for children, sandy but with rockpools to the western end and there are watersports and excellent beach-side cafes. There are numerous other secluded, unspoiled beaches within easy reach throughout the Western Algarve.
Golf
Four superb golf courses are within a short drive - Boavista (just 5 minutes away), Parque da Floresta and Palmares (15 minutes away) and Penina (30 minutes away). Two further new courses currently under construction nearby.
Travel
Faro airport is approx. 55 minute drive on the newly completed A22 motorway, leaving at Junction 1 about 5Kms from Luz. Taxi transfers are available from approx. 75-85 euros each way depending upon vehicle size. Regular trains run between Faro and Lagos, which is a 10-15 minute taxi ride away. Regular bus service also available for travel locally or within the village. A car is not essential but is recommended, particularly for exploring the Algarve.
Distances
Villa Cegonha is well situated in a peaceful location suitable for a family holiday. We sited it to enjoy the magnificent views and you can still walk to the supermarket and restaurants within 10 minutes and the beach within 15/20 minutes. However, the walk back will take a little longer; you can always drive, take a short/cheap taxi ride or time your return to coincide with the local bus.
Further details
Praia da Luz has excellent facilities with lots of restaurants catering for all tastes (several currently offering special 'credit crunch' deals), as well as bars, banks, post office etc. There are several supermarkets, the largest being particularly well stocked and offering telephone ordering/free delivery.
There is an excellent 24hr medical facility, as well as dentists. Many other leisure/sporting facilities are available locally or within a short drive, including tennis, horse-riding, bowling, archery, cycling, quad-biking, angling etc. etc. It is also excellent walking country, a wonderful coastal path stretching east and west from Luz. The beautiful old market town/fishing port of Lagos with its superb marina, shopping facilities and nightlife, is a 10/15 minute ride away.
Booking notes
A 20% non-refundable deposit is required, the balance being due 8 weeks prior to arrival. As standard conditions will apply in the event of cancellation, suitable travel insurance should be arranged.
