The Quinta do Monte estate has 3 houses to let, and a 4th where the owner lives. It is approached by a private drive and is completely secluded. There are over 8 acres of grounds: lawns dotted with flowers, shrubs and fruit trees, woodland, a vineyard, cycle tracks, a lake, an aviary and a pony, a games room/pool table, even a football pitch. And there's a great view over the valley. The traditional Minho 19th Century houses have been completely renovated since 2004 and are furnished in the Minho Manor House style - heavy solid wooden furniture, quarry tiled floors and so on, to complement the impressively thick stone walls. It's great for a get-away-from-it-all family holiday, as a centre for touring, or simply a chance to stay in an exclusive spot and do a bit of everything - beach, tourism, countryside, relaxing by the pool.....The houses are nicely furnished and equipped, we will do everything we can to make your holiday comfortable and memorable.

This newly refurbished, detached, 1-bedroom cottage has everything you need for a relaxing holiday by the pool, but is also ideally located for so much more. It faces the gardens and is sufficiently separate from the other 2 houses at Quinta do Monte to provide privacy, yet all the facilities are on the doorstep. Inside, it's amazing how much has been included, but also how much space there is. And it's all done with style and quality.

The bedroom has a double bed and plenty of space for a cot too. The lounge has satellite TV and DVD, a fireplace and seating for 4 people, and is separated from the kitchen area by a breakfast bar style dining table. The kitchen is fully equipped, with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, hob, microwave and washing machine. There is central heating throughout.

 

Notes on accommodation
The houses have full central heating (for winter bookings!). The houses are cleaned & beds changed halfway through stays of 11 nights or more (or on request at extra charge). All bed linen and towels are provided.
No restrictions on smoking or pets, and children are very welcome.
If you're arriving late, we'll leave basic provisions (bread, butter, milk etc.) so you'll have something for breakfast the next morning.

Outside
All 3 houses have full access to the gardens and extensive estate grounds, Pool (12m x 5m), with loungers, other garden furniture & shower, snooker room, mountain bikes, massage at home or in the garden, large barbecue area, lake. There are of patios and hidden nooks to hide yourself in. Free access to the village tennis courts.

Coast/Beach
The family seaside resort of Vila Praia de Âncora is about 15km away, and either side of it, along a 50km stretch, are the many safe, clean beaches of the Costa Verde - surf beaches, sandy, rocky, wide, discreet, family, romantic beaches - you can go to a different one each day to suit your mood. There are also warm, sheltered river beaches on the River Lima, within 8km.

Golf
Ponte de Lima (20km), part of a "bucolic scenery of mountains, vineyards and fruit gardens", is a course typical of the Minho region. Par 71, 6005m, including Portugal's longest hole at 622m (par 5).

Estela (50km), built on a 3km stretch of sand dunes on the beautiful Costa Verde, this is one of the Portuguese golf links that secured a high reputation for itself when it hosted two events in the European Professionals' Circuit. Par 72, 6129m.

Quinta da Barca golf resort (35km), an excellent 9 hole course with stunning views over the Cavado River. Par 31, 2012m.

Travel
Porto international airport - 80km (75km of it motorway). Vigo airport (Spain) - 80km. Bilbao & Santander ferry ports (from Portsmouth or Plymouth) are a day's drive away. There is almost no public transport, so a car is essential. We have special rates available through SIXT. Alternatively, if you plan to stay in the village, we can pick you up at the airport (extra cost).

Distances
Quinta do Monte is in the middle of a triangle: Viana do Castelo (main historic port of the region), Ponte de Lima (distinctive centre of Minho tourism) and Vila Praia de Âncora (family seaside resort), are all about 15km away.
Also within easy reach are the popular towns of Caminha, Cerveira and Ponte de Barca, and further inland the wild countryside of the Penda-Gerês National Park. The nearest cities are Braga (50km), Porto (90km) & Vigo. The Spanish border is 50km away. Great for touring!

Further details
Vilar de Murteda is an attractive, scattered hillside place of about 400 people, in a heavily wooded zone on the way up to Serra d'Arga (784m). The village has a couple of cafés (the hub of village life) and a "sells everything" mini-market. Visitors have full, free access to the village's sports facilities.

Deposit of 25% to be paid on confirmation of booking, the balance to be paid in full 6 weeks prior to arrival. Currency & bank charges to be paid at source. A returnable cash deposit against breakage or loss may be requested on arrival.
