Stay in a spectacular setting in the wooded hills of the Serra de Sintra (World Heritage site) one hour from Lisbon. Casa do Celeiro is a lovingly restored 17th century stable designed by architect / artist owners. The house is built into a hill enclosing a private cobbled courtyard on four sides. A sloping garden in front of the Cottage has a variety of fruit trees including lemons, oranges and apples. A stone terrace with vine covered pergola opposite entrance to the Cottage overlooks garden and the sea. Above the house is a round swimming pool built on an 'eira' (stone threshing circle) with panoramic views. It is not only the architecture which makes this place special but also the bohemian feel: sculptures in the courtyard, paintings and etchings in every corner, flowering plants and herbs and a glorious sense of space and light.

Guest comments
Thank you for a lovely stay, the week seems to have flown away, and there´s still so much to find out! Beautiful charming house, lovely hosts, art all over the place. Lisbon interesting, beautiful museums, nice people, Sintra pretty and green! Serra, magnificent cliffs, so many walks we couldn’t even start. Please come and visit us in Holland! You will be very welcome!Laetitia Wanders, 3/5/08
We have had a wonderful fortnight here - fortunate to find such a lovely spot. The house is very welcoming with its rich artistic feel - something fresh to stimulate the eye on every turn, not to mention the terrific views over Almoçageme. But more than anything this is perfecly placed to visit the real gems of Portugal - the palaces of Sintra, Lisbon, the convent of the Capuchins, fantastic.....The beach at Adraga is brilliant - and for the cold of the Atlantic there is the perfect balance of the pool - a sun trap and out of the breeze. Thank you for a lovely stay. R- Staniforth, 8/07
